Well, I saw one of the 500 missing cars here in Ubon Ratchathani ( Isaan ) the other day.

I remember thinking: hmmm, that actually looks like a Rolls Royce Phantom.

2 seconds later: holy sh*t, it is!

It was white with red license plates.

Have a look what crosses the border into laos in mukdahan will make that RR look like a volvo

Im really curious....

What would that car be to make a RR look like a volvo?

I think I hear the sound of a clueless twit pretending to know something and making bold statements that smell bad

Think you need to re-evaluate who the clueless twit is, considering the one you are running down was making a smart arse comment re the peaking order of exotic and expensive cars.

Anyone going to jail yet, well if there is no deterrent its going to happen, i will like many others raise my glass when they show justice to these criminals.

In Europe where this could'nt happen, it would be a tremendous scandal, but here ,well its Thainess, 500 fifing luxury cars, common global press you gotta get this story out there !

Super cars on the worse roads, trashy sois and crappy streets. Thailand will never be chosen as an advertising destination for any car brand. That's for sure.

All thailand needs is a bombaclass international rap artist

Thats different than i see a ford tractor beeing pulled out of a deep ditch by a flock of waterbuffalos

How do you call a large group of waterbuffalos ?.

WORTH Every Satang

1 - keeps the traffic jams lighter

2 - adds to resale price

3 - status symbol that people can easily recognize

4 - the rest of us drive 2500 cc or less, so we are easy to pass

5 - Fastest way out of here

6 - still drive like you are on the old honda dream. No matter how rich you are.

7 - police would never pull you over. FEAR of promotions lost

Not enough time to list the benefits today

As for customs, every time I have to deal with them the extortion is blatant.

? ? ?

7. You are right, I followed once, a sporty JAGUAR, a "JAG" and a sporty AUDI,

in a fast pursuit on a main road from Chayaphum to Nakhon Ratchasima.

"Fast" possibly only for me, as my aging old, heavy Ford Ranger, could not do much more than 155 ? km/h

But I tried my best.

In the middle of now where, I was stopped for speeding at a kind of roadblock, the two European car models, did not even slow down.

Only I was stopped, the last slowest in the group, with the old car!

I let the police officer know my displeasure about that fact, in a "tirade" of Thai English.

The officer, listened a bit and without further questioning, waved me threw. rolleyes.gif

what about paying directly the importax on the cars and then store them the hell they want to ...

what about , in 2014, ending a 307% luxery tax on imported cars so we all don't have to buy & drive the same shitzus

Who get the extra money in that , the gov,?

I'm all for supercars. Real babe magnets. You can park right outside the club. Last time in Bangkok I saw a convoy of them escorted by a motorcycle cop. Impractical and dangerous though. These vehicles should be banned from public motorways anyways unless equipped with a speed limiting device. If you want to speed trailer it to a race track.

The issue isn't quite as serious as we are being told. 500 cars that cannot be accounted for in terms of tax over a 6 or 7 year period is hardly devastating. Sure, the cars have a huge value, but no-one is claiming that they have been stolen. Don't forget that now, a house is worth 4 mill, the total volume of funds missing over an extended period is actually only the cost of 20 houses and this, nationally is trivial.
These cars have all been imported properly and paid for, the only loophole seems to be that Thai duty is not payable until the goods become Thai property = sold. The only real issue is that while the importer has the right to show the vehicles to interested parties and to display them in showrooms, it is his responsibility to pay the duties and typically, this is the agent's scam. The definitional question being " is this actually a Thai property, before a loan from a foreign bank, taken out to pay for it has been repaid ". I think that, at worst, this is a typical Thai rule flexibility and that the New government / Junta will adjust the rules to suit the newly perceived and identified situation. It Jess ain't serius....

Correct! That would be Bt 53,333 + tax!

Value of 20 houses @ Bt 4million each = Bt 80million.

80million / 500 cars = Bt 160,000 per car, of which Bt 106,667 is tax at the 200% rate.

Missing revenue is the 200% tax due on the value of the 500 cars. Assume (conservatively) each car is valued at only Bt 3million, then the tax due is 200% * Bt 3 million/car * 500 cars = Bt 3 billion

"But the source said luxury cars would continue to disappear from warehouses because some business owners had good relations with officials who take bribes and let the cars out so they can be displayed at showrooms."

That explains it all really. Welcome to LOC. Land of corruption.
