Thai quarantine relations for the the import of fruit trees from Australia

Featured Replies

can anyone avise my of where to look on the web for the Rules and Regulations on the import of various types of fruit trees from Australia to Thailand. I have chased all over the web and queried some Australian AQIS staff but they are not conversant with Thai Rules and Regulations.

I am speaking in particular about varieties such as; peach, plum, apricot, grapefruit and fig. Other varieties I have in mind are olive

These are not for retail sale or market, but for my own personal use on and around my house and land.

OR if these varieties are (or at least some of them) available for purchase in Thailand, again can some please advise of a friut growers contact or web site I can go to

I have looked into getting trees into Thailand and the way I see it is,

1 There must be a grower that has AQIS accreditation. It is better if the plants are not growing in soil but in another growing mix.

2 The plants must be inspected by AQIS just before transport and given the approval

3 It doesn't matter if there is 1 plant or 100, It costs the same if not more if the inspection goes overtime. ( I think the charges are high)

4 You have to watch what plants are coming into Thailand, some of them are not permited.

The trouble you have to go through to get plants into Thailand is not worth it. It is probably better to find a fruit tree that grows well in the area your in.

Good luck, if you do find a way of doing it let me know

I walked through customs in Bangkok with two one meter long meyer lemon trees wrapped up. I had bought them in Australia. I think ciustoms dont really care what you bring in like these sort of things. Most of the officials dont know the regulations.
