Whats with all the <deleted> plastic!

So, I moved into a new apartment, met the landlord, nice chap, he did a nice job on the place, kitted it out with a new kitchen.

Thing is, there was still furniture covered with plastic! The mattress, covered in plastic and cardboard, coffee table, tv, light switches, chair... I mean, does he expect me to leave plastic on stuff? Too lazy to remove himself?

Sort of reminds me of Ireland in the 80's, people would leave plastic on furniture, I guess trying to keep it "NEW" for as long as possible.

I've seen this carry on in China too.

Oh, and the stickers on the TV, telling you how great it is, HD etc... well, they're like superglued on...

Anyway, is this common place in Thailand to leave plastic on furnitire after buying it?

OP, be very careful, when you try to remove the plastic, yourself (unthinkable) in case you sustain a bad back injury.

The things, they expect us to do here in Thailand is unbelievable.

As about the stickers on TV, I suggest you submerge your TV in water and, believe me they will come out easily.

Once that plastic is removed you own it, be careful.

Well, comfort and common sense aside, keeping plastic on furniture especially a mattress is actualy worse for it, they're supposed to breathe, especially in this climate. My buddy left his apartment for 6 weeks, got back there was mould everywhere.

Anyway, ye, he'll probably try it on if/when I move out.

It's the same with the *@#* stickers.

The house I rented in CM was years old, but the toilet seat and tank, the fridge, the air conditioner, the flatscreen TV, the kitchen sink, and the neighbor's dog, all still had the stickers on 'em.

You better check with him if you can remove the plastic without losing your deposit.

On another note a friend's wife wrapped their new plasma in clingfilm. A week later it burst into flames.

I might be wrong, often am, but I think your landlord is showing you that all the fittings are new.

I personally think its a conspiracy/scam against farangs, the Thai's put the plastic on the furntiure on purpose for every farang tenant that moves in, making them think its new, the unsuspecting and naive farang removes the plastic and you lose your deposit, of course this would never happen to TV members who are at one with their Thainess...

I will go and get my tin foil hat now....rolleyes.gif

These stickers are glued much stronger than at home. Took me ages to get the energy efficiency certificate of the AC....

WOW we have finally found something in farangs opinon, Thai's are good at... putting stickers on whistling.gif

Must say I have never measured the stickability of Farangistan stickers versus Thailand stickers to give an informed comment on this based on scientific data...rolleyes.gif

Can you give us an overview of your methodology and your statistical results of how you came to that conclusion ?...whistling.gif

FarangLand - grab it and remove

Here, spend weeks soaking, scratching, tearing it apart etc.

And no I am not keeping statistics or get obsessed with stickers.... Just chatting nonsense. ..

I said I might be wrong. I have never rented a furnished apartment or house. It is much cheaper to rent an unfurnished place and have your own things which you like.

Now we have our own house, but before we rented and nearly everything in our house has been with us for years.

I am addicted to traditional Thai furniture, wood carvings and art.

Have you ever tried to get those stickers off.

The ones on the toilet seat are actually better left on because they rip and then it is impossible to remove the exposed glue which then gets filthy.

isopropanol is your friend there, if you can't get hold of that, nail polish remover works nearly as well but can eat in to certain plastics.

Yep, noted a few Filipino families in the US do the same. The good stuff in the living room is covered in plastic and nobody's allowed in the room much less to sit on it.

Saudis leave the plastic on their new car seats, and the big sticker on the window letting everyone know it is an EXPORT model from the US. Car can be a few years old, still sporting plastic and that sticker!
