"Single Americans make up more than half of the adult population for the first time since the government began compiling such statistics in 1976."

I wonder if this means that the number of sexpats/sextourists in countries like Thailand will continue to rise faster than the general population growth?

An interesting discussion under the abovementioned article. Sounds like Asian women may be getting more popular among white males in the US.

Who said to you OP, that only singles come to Thailand to taste her fruits?

Bet you most of them are married men.

And I don't blame them, having experienced a 30year marriage with a bitch, this is paradise on earth comparing with the women back home.

I'm always surprised to hear how many guys were divorced after 20+ years of marriage.

You think it's only you, then you discover it's entirely normal.

Yet, if you dare mention menopause, as probable cause, you get called a misogynist.

Nature taking its course. Rugged individualism + lifetime commitment do not mix. I told my commanding officer before checking out of the military that "this was better than a marriage", because while they do 'own' or 'lease' your body during active service, at least every 3-6 years you can make a new choice if you want to continue the arrangement.

Everyone is working, working, working over in the developed countries. Particularly in the USA where it is a constant hustle to have more and more means, or at least look like it. It may be true that 50 years ago marriages were simple because people's wants were simple. Morality alone cannot sustain a marriage in the post iPhone generation. People's wants do change, and the current marriage contract is not designed with enough flexibility. If there were renewable marriage contracts, with 'rewards' for longevity, i think there would be more marriages lasting longer or at least more honesty about the expectations of each participant.

If they didn't give the woman all the guys assets plus alimony for life and child maint for 19 years, there would only be a fraction of the divorces.

How simple is that!

Robin Williams, 100M to under 10M in 3 marriages, that's how bad it is now.

What did those women contribute to the making of his money, my guess is nothing, but they still got most of it.

It's very interesting how the credit system works. The powers that be made it such that, in many cases, it is 'cheaper to keep her'. It turned the whole concept of marriage into a mating lottery.

Alimony for life? What states do this and under what circumstances? I remember the military having some provision that if you are married for 10 years during your service and you retire, your spouse is entitled to 1/2. of the base pay or something like that. California has some similar [un]progressive alimony laws.

Who [at a young age] wants to take such risks when you can just rent/lease and be done with it?

Jingthing's video is very timely as well. We have images of perfection and lofty expectations very few people fit, especially in regards to economic expectations. But we don't express this directly. We obfuscate it to avoid judgement and to be polite. I see Thailand as being more honest in this regard.

Many (if not most) states have permanent alimony awards (along with temporary and lump sum alimony).

Unless the divorcing woman was going to remarry (some of the ladies already had new bfs) I would always advise permanent.

If they had a bf hiding away, I would go for the biggest lump sum (grab and run).

Florida wants to do away with permanent alimony awards, but the governor vetoed the bill last year.

what is the minimum time in the marriage required to qualify for permanent alimony? Any other requirements?

Up to the judge,

But if you've been married 10 years, she has had babies, or given up work, or supported you while you trained, she'll most likely get it.

On the other hand, if you supported her through college or a profession, you can get it.

It ends when/if the beneficiary gets remarried.
