Thai police hunt killers of two Britons found beaten to death

Instead of making 'concerned' comments, why hasn't the interior minister told the DSI to get off their backside and send a team of investigative & forensic experts to the island post haste.

Focusing on Myanmar workers (only?) appears to be looking for a scapegoat.

On a another note, I must say its not fair to say that these poor migrants from Myammar, Cambodia etc are always used as scapegoats as some of these Cambodians, Burmese and even Fillipinos (a lot in Thailand these days).....can be very nasty and terrible creatures too.

While I will agree there is some bad behavior by some Western tourists in Thailand they were in a semi secluded spot and it was dark. This isn't daytime with others obviously there. They were sharing a room with their friends so no maybe they didn't have a room.

I can understand the romance of being by the water in the dark. Not endorsing it but I understand it.

This is just so very sad and cruel. Think about the parents of these young people. How must they be feeling now? Impossible to comprehend such pain.

I hope they find the people that did this whatever nationality.

Ok you ruled out Thai's as we can see. But look at this logically #1 a bloody hoe found at scene. Maybe fingerprinting it might be in order since it looks to be murder weapon. # 2 The hoe would rule out farangs from committing crime. # 3 DNA test on woman for possible raped would be clear proof who committed rape and or murder. #4 Check victims finger nail she may have scratched attacker under her finger should be skin for DNA testing. Check her closely for foreign hair not belonging to her. #5 check area around attack should be footprints in and out at least you can figure persons size and weight that way and which direction he used to leave area. #6 suspects you go back to there room check all there clothes they might have changed them especially the shoes for blood splatter. # 7 explain how a fire can cause a bruise The person that said that is Thai and most likely the killer. 38 get police with brains to investigate this crime where Porntip and her freaky hairdoo?

Just watched a BBC news report on these disgusting murders and the reporter was quite incredulous that when he had asked a "local police chief" why they had arrested 3 Myanmar migrant workers he had been told that "they probably had something to do with it" and that he "could not imagine a Thai ever committing such a terrible crime"!

His comment was something to the effect that it hardly showed an open mind on the part of the police.

Just another well-publicised foot-shot by Thailand for the rest of the world to wonder at.

"Gen. Pravit Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, said he instructed police to urgently solve the case..."

So most other cases of criminality are dealt with on the back-burner (excuse the pun), at police's own speed and discretion? Farcical!

They also have to investigate the victims' conduct to see if they didn't deserve to be murdered and/or raped, because these type of things should not happen.

Maybe it's only me, but I'm finding these type of comments hard to digest.

Yep, hard to believe that someone strolling along the beach and finding a couple, doing whatever, just happened to have a garden implement in their hand. rolleyes.gif

Only a nutter would leave the tool behind. The tool will crack the case...thumbsup.gif

I dont believe the migrant worker story for a minute - I have to be honest in what i think - they were drunk having sex and Thai people didnt like it and killed them. I also think it should be considered that the third foreigner is dead. I know my country and dont hide any feelings for what the people i it are capable of!

Is that really sound police work, eliminating all Thais because they can't believe a Thai could do such a thing? I still can't get out of my mind the Russian stabbed 7 times in the chest and the police called a suicide. Karma has come to Thailand. It has arrived.

You can be sure that in-between 24 hours we hear that these 3 non-thais are the killers. thai police has to show quick results now, it's a matter of business and national pride. How they get the confession out of these poor guys, you and me know how they do.....

Looks like there truly IS a police investigation going on. Wow! Only fact that still dosturbs me is the tunnel vision solely on non-Thai suspects...

Could be any national but it is striking only foreigners are current suspects. Far too much "its them" since this tragedy happened

No point blaming foreign workers from Myanmar or anywhere else and trying to pass off its not Thailand's responsibility, even if it does turn out to be a non Thai the Thais employ them, they don't care what background or history people have as long as they come cheap. Ultimately Thailand is responsible for tourists safety in Thailand, and they totally failed these two people.

This is an extremely high profile incident in the UK and The British government will no doubt be taking a keen interest and quite possibly will want to substantiate any DNA matched to any suspects before its rushed through any courts. I don't think this time a half baked rush job on any patsy will cut it or be accepted by HM Gov and nor should it.

I think you are being generous to the UK govt, I don't think they give a toss.

With 389 Brits dead in a year you have to wonder what is going on. How does this figure and particularly the odds of 2,400/1 that you will die while in Thailand hold up against UK visitors to other countries? How many are OAP's kicking the bucket? Far too many foreigners seem to fall off balconies for my liking.

I love the police comment. ...and mobilised both Koh Tao and Koh Phangan residents to help police," Panya said. So you organised a mob!

11 British nationals murdered in Thailand since 2009 according to UK FCO.

Other deaths would include natural causes, accidents and suicides.

The Thais only seem to care about their tourism industry, so long as someone, anyone is arrested and paraded in front of the worlds media, the Thai police will be happy, they really don't give a toss about this poor couple or who actually did the murder. I do love living here, but now after these murders I am getting the feeling from friends and family that I must be stupid for wanting to live here. These are the same family and friends who were envious that I lived here. And the same family and friends who enjoyed free holidays here while they stayed with us, but now I have had three e mails and two telephone conversations and the general feeling is " why the hell do you want to live in Thailand?" And "I don't think I will ever be holidaying in Thailand again"

This stuff happens the world over. One cannot live in fear every day, wherever you live or holiday..One of life's risks....

You'd think murders only happen in Thailand! Why do some expect such a massively popular tourist destination to be some idyllic crime-free paradise?

The 'used' condom holds all the evidence, assuming it wasn't used 3 months ago bah.gif .... don't lose it guys or throw it into the bin as beach garbage..... facepalm.gif

That should have been the first thing to be analysed... so let's assume it is right now, and not the post-haste-mortem. coffee1.gif

A USED CONDOM as evidence in a rape and murder case? My, what a considerate rapist! Give me a break...

The condom could have come from the couple and not the murder/possible rapist

I guess the clever Thai police already found out the most likely story what happened is this:

the young couple left the party to have some fun with each other. That's why there is a condom found.

For what reason should a rapist use a condom?

They were naked. Not unusual when having sex.

The perps came to the scene and wanted to have some "fun", too - or only the money or the mobile ...

When the couple tried to chase them away - the hoe was used

Anyway may be quitre different - who knows?

To what ethnic belong most of the people on the island?

It is most likely that the perps belong to that ethnic whose number is biggest. (Only likely not proof)

But that does not say anything about the violence proneness of that ethnicity

"Thais do not do that" is utter BS - enough proof for the opposite.

That stupid racist copper should be sacked

If they are unable to get the true murderer, they will probably resort on a Burmese scapegoat who has nothing to do with that.

Who is going to defend him ?

All Burmese who overwork like slaves here must live in a state of terror, fearing they could be arrested for something they didn't do.

Yes, nobody in the authorities care about the murdered couple, they just fear about tourism business and the money in their pockets,so they need a culprit, real or not real.

In this case thoroughly independent (=foreign) research should be strongly demanded

On Tuesday Thai junta chief and prime minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha appeared to call into question the victims' conduct in addition to the perpetrators of the attack.

"We have to look into the behaviour of the other party too because this kind of incident should not happen to anybody and it has affected our image," he told reporters, referring to the two tourists.

w00t.gif

Dreadful, draconian, chauvanistic comments......this from the PM....."affected our image".....unbelievable!!

His comments should be condemned, and he should be made to understand why they were so wrong.
