I personally have never seen anything like this in Thailand but I did a little rooting around on

google and found this maybe it will help? Appears that there may be some sources in Thailand.

I initially thought the OP may have been talking about a wind out awning.

After looking at the OP's link, and googling for some photos, I have seen something similar, but not in Thailand.
