American Matthew Miller starts North Korean prison sentence; photo released
By Will Ripley and Madison Park, CNN

(CNN) -- The American held in North Korea, Matthew Miller, begins his six-year sentence of hard labor on Thursday.

A North Korean government official released a photo of Miller, taken on Wednesday. Dressed in a blue-gray prison garment with the number 107 and his head shaved, Miller is seen with his eyes downcast, staring away from the camera.

Details about where he'll serve his sentence or what labor he will be required to do were not released.

Miller was convicted of committing "acts hostile" to North Korea and sentenced earlier this month. North Korea has accused him of ripping up his visa on arrival to the country so he could go to prison and expose human rights violations there, according to the state-run Korean Central News Agency.

Perhaps from a Western perspective, not. But China, Russia and NK to name a few don't appreciate visitors coming to their countries with an aim to disrupt things.

He didn't do anything really bad and I wonder if a supportive word from Dennis Rodman to the supreme leader could expedite his release?

It'll do him good. Nothing wrong with a bit of hard labour and deprivation. Character-building. He'll come out of there fit, strong, and there won't be a lazy bone in his body.

Then there's the book rights that will make him rich.

Lucky man.

Actually there may not be any bone in his body.

North Korea has accused him of ripping up his visa on arrival to the country so he could go to prison...

If this truly be the case...why not expel him from the country...why give him what you N. Koreans say he wants...makes no sense...

Just being used as a pawn by a brutal totalitarian regime.

The guy is clearly mentally ill for having pulled that stunt in the first place.

And his strange interest in fairy stories, in fact he is strange all round forget about the twerp.

Enjoy your 6 year holiday. Fool.

He might be smarter than we think. Most likely back home in a year and then bestselling millionaire author.

Maybe so. But he will need the money to get his head straightened out and his rear end stitched up. Good luck to him.

this is a serious crime in many countries (not logic)....But I am also surprised. I would look a lot better if they just hand him over to the American soldiers at the border.

They could even pull a big PR show, that they haven't something like Guantanamo, even for spies......

Or put him in jail and tell they would give him back if the American President says sorry for spying......

Maybe NK should hire Robert Amsterdam?

If you check the statistics, average tool in Korea is around 9cm. Average Northern, with their nutritious diet, can't be biggersmile.png
