September 27, 201411 yr I have a couple questions regarding getting my son his first UK passport. He is currently in Thailand and I'm in the UK. I have registered his birth with the Embassy already, and I have received a certificate back for him. Can I now make a normal application for him while I'm in the uk, or do I need to make the application in Thailand using his Thai Birth cert, (translated and certified by the MOFA). thanks
September 28, 201411 yr Because he is in Thailand I am sure you (or your wife) needs to apply at the VAC in Bangkok even tough the applications are now processed in the UK. You may find the following link to previous post on the subject useful. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/694440-getting-a-uk-passport-for-my-newborn-half-thai-child/
September 28, 201411 yr Author Thanks for the link. It sounds a nightmare. I got my daughter's passport in thailand and it was easy, but that was at the embassy. It ran out so I renewed it here. She's in thailand. I registered both children's births with the embassy, so surely I can now just pop to the post office and apply here for my boy using the berth cert the embassy gave me. He's 3 so he doesn't need to be present anyhow. In the link posters are talking about kids traveling on visas then applying here. What would be the difference?
December 26, 201411 yr Author I have been able to apply for my son's first passport while I'm in the uk and he is in thailand. I registered his birth first (if you're going to live here this document is needed for school) and used this birth certificate. No questions were asked. Very simple.
December 26, 201411 yr i applied for my son's first passport in Thailand in August.... i needed to send some additional information..they have had this for more than 9 weeks at Liverpool...it still has not passed all the security checks as of today...it's a total nightmare...they do not give you any indication of timescales...i regret not applying for a family visit visa for my son in November..best to do it in the UK if you can...my situation was a little more complicated because i was not sure which visa i was going to apply for my wife until she had taken her KET test which she failed...it would be much better to apply in the UK if possible.. Cheers..
December 27, 201411 yr Cheers...i estimate i will have waited more than 5 months until we receive the passport in Bangkok...pretty disgraceful really...my wife also has a family visa to come to the UK from December 1st so i will also lose at least 6 weeks of her time in the UK...I delayed her visa until three and a half months after initially submitting the passport application... Cheers..
