Policeman gets 57 years for gun rampage

BANGKOK: -- The Criminal Court yesterday gave a former crowd control policeman a total of 57 years and 10 months in prison for six cases in which he reportedly shot at motorists in Bangkok.

In one case, Police Lance Corporal Thirayu Phetchmeekha, 31, chased vehicles along Ratchadapisek road to Prachanukul intersection, Wong Sawang intersection and Rama 7 road, while firing a pistol at them. Six cars were damaged and a number of people injured.

Thirayu reportedly confessed to the December 2011 shootings. He said he was drunk and couldn't control himself, an informed source reported.

Thirayu was dismissed from civil service after the shooting incident and has been remanded throughout the period of court trial.

he won't survive very long in there as a police officer. This country confuses me though, that guy who killed his wife and chopped her up was given a pardon after something like 15 years? This guy gets basically a life sentence and didn't kill anybody

I have to admit TV would be quite a boring place if posters weren't allowed to just pull stuff out of their...hat...without any proof.

I seriously doubt that he could control himself when he was sober either. Regardless of that: there won't be a follow up in the press when he walks out the back door of his cell in a short time.

I would suggest to these numerous idiots that when they are drunk and can't control themselves and rape, shoot or murder people that they kill themselves instead.

Actually he should be paraded around and reenact his crimes in his RTP uniform.

A couple of years ago a group of cops were convicted of murder

Some got life some were sentenced to execution All were granted bail

Never to be seen again

How does the justice system here operate

Dont' worry, like the guy who chopped up his wife, this police officer will be out in 5-7 years after a couple govt pardons/sentence reductions and credit for good behavior.

Boggles my mind, not a single death but life sentence.

Later on appeal it will be reduced to 7 days in prison and a 2,000 Baht fine. No doubt because 'he gave useful information'. Seen it all before..........NEXT !

As this is a report about one particular officer's actions that were more than adequately punished, why do you think some of his "bad bosses" should go to jail? Where there any senior officers involved here that should have received punishment also?
