October 2, 201411 yr looking to see if any of my fellow ex-pats living in BKK would like to get together for a weekly or maybe even biweekly game of hold'em. Nothing serious, just a little bit of downtime, having fun and enjoying conversation. could be sponsored at my place in Saphanmai, or at your place if you hold a more luxurious residence, or even a more centralized location for that matter. No steaks is fine, looking for the camaraderie that might come from it. 529 players would do it., Miss that kind of Friday evening at home.
October 3, 201411 yr Only illegal if money is involved. Playing cards is not against the law. So please, no discussion of gambling for money.
October 3, 201411 yr Popular Post Some are only TV members so they can vent all their negativity I guess. A seemingly decent guy is looking for people to socialize with and have a little fun. What does he get? A**holes threatening to cause him trouble. Did he make any reference to gambling? No!! Do Thais gamble constantly without any uppity farangs threatening to rat them out? Yes!!. I too miss a good poker game from time to time. I've tried to teach my Thai friends( who gamble for money almost every night), but they just can't follow the game. If I was close to BKK I would probably contact the OP and join him for an evenings fun. I'm not close to BKK. Maybe the rest of you can be content to just stay home and pick on your wives and children? Good luck to the OP..hope you get a good group together for a good game!
October 3, 201411 yr Did he make any reference to gambling? No!! Game is gunna be pretty ordinary without poker chips.
October 3, 201411 yr Reminds me of a funny moment a few months ago in Ao Nang, I was sitting enjoying a quiet beer on the beach with my gf (the Last Cafe for any who know the area), I hadn't been there for many years so was simply enjoying the views & quiet peaceful setting when all hell broke loose...out of nowhere at least 3 armed police pounced on a couple of Thais who were playing cards on the beach, the chap was roughly handcuffed while his lady friend made a run for it up the beach with the policeman in hot pursuit...just like a scene from the Keystone Cops :-) The Lady was duly caught and both 'criminals' proudly led away by the BIB! I agree that Poker isn't quite the same without the stakes but the OP has made it clear he is just after the "camaraderie" or buzz that comes from the game and company (I also love it) so I also wish Quadman luck. p.s. I wouldn't recommend Ao Nang beach as a venue for all 530 of you though :-) (are you really hoping for another 529 players or was that a typo?)

October 3, 201411 yr "Should have read 5 to 9" Noww I get it, sounds reasonable, shame tho as I had a vision of over 60 poker tables of 8 apiece battling it out at your gaff , good luck, pls keep us all informed. Cheers, Ray.
October 3, 201411 yr Sounds like fun, also miss playing cards... In US used to have some regular games Texas hold'em (buy in USD 5 each ) or Euchre (0.25/.50) or Pinochle Never really about money, just some fun.. Although if playing in Thailand wouldn't bet, as not worth any possible problems

Although if playing in Thailand wouldn't bet, as not worth any possible problems I miss them as well. When to police raided the place where we used to play it has never been the same (actually we have never played since).
October 3, 201411 yr That's a shame ... Looking forward to heading back for vacation with family to US for Christmas / New Years... A bit of tradition for our family to play Pinochle at gatherings... (No money, just for fun)... So will be a blast to play again ...
October 4, 201411 yr A post has been removed from view. Again, ANY discussion of gambling is forbidden on our forum, unless it's related to an item in the news forum.
October 4, 201411 yr Author I play online instead, much safer. Seriously, I meant getting together with the same (or a few of the same) guys a couple of time a month, getting to know one another's styles (and maybe a little about their life) downing a few beers eating some BBQ steaks (maybe), as the pizza here mostly sucks..... It ain't about money. In any case, I think from the replies, I can see why it don't happen here too easily. I'll be back to canada in a month for a month, I'll get some time in then. Thanks for the replies.
October 4, 201411 yr Playing the stockmarket (which is legal btw) has a lot more gambling involved than a game of poker where skills far outweighs luck.
