BANGKOK, 3 October 2014 (NNT) – Mr. Chatchai Phromlert, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior, warns 20 provinces to monitor the situations of flash flood, forest run-off, and mudslide during October 4th-7th.

The weather forecast by the Meteorological Department of Thailand reported that the monsoon trough lies across the lower central region, the East and the South while the low pressure area covers the middle South China Sea. Southwest monsoon remains covering the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand and is expected to become stronger periodically. As a precaution, the Department has alerted 20 provinces to monitor the situation around the clock. Fast mobile rescuers should be ready to access all risky areas especially lowland riverbank and slopes. Furthermore, all dams, weirs and reservoirs must be checked. If not in good condition, all residents and tourists surrounding these places must be evacuated immediately.

People in risky areas should monitor the weather forecast closely. Those who are suffering from flooding, windstorm, and landslide can ask for 24-hour help from the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Regional Centers or calling hotline 1784.

The 20 provinces at risk include Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan in the lower central region, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat in the East and 14 provinces in the South, namely Ranong, Phang-nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and Satun.
