Police indict surrogacy clinic doctor

BANGKOK: -- Lumpini station police officially indicted Dr Pisit Tantiwattanakul, owner of All IVF Clinic, on Friday with two charges in connection with the surrogacy cases involving a Japanese young businessman reported to father 15 babies.

In filing investigation case to the Office of the Attorney-General to prosecute him in the court of justices, Lumpini police charged the doctor with operating a fertility clinic without permission, in violation of regulations of the Medical Council of Thailand (MCT) and the Public Health Ministry, and with providing illegal surrogacy services to the Japanese father.

The first charge carries a maximum imprisonment term of three years, and a fine of 60,000 baht, while the second charge carries one year prison term, and 20,000 baht fine.

The attorney-general set October 9 as the day to hear its decision on whether the case has substantial evidence to proceed the prosecution as proposed by the police.

Dr Pisit arrived at Lumpini police station today with his lawyers but declined any comment except saying he was innocent.

Dr Pisit reported the police Friday for the fourth time.

He is to report himself to the attorney-general for the fifth time on October 9 to hear whether the attorney-general will prosecute him or not.

Dr Pisit is owner of All IVF Clinic of which its obstetrics and gynecology service license has been suspended.

The doctor and Japanese customer(father ???) idea is to create zombies, not babies. Sounds like they try to create a human factory, rather than human beings. Sad for the small babies, should be given for adoption of right couples.

Is that the same clinic that surrogated 50 male babies for Kim Jong Un ?

I just ordered a set of twins and a baby boy.

Is there any chance I can obtain a refund?

Dr Phisit, out on bail

BANGKOK: -- A doctor associated with a number of unauthorised surrogacies, who has been accused of violating laws against unauthorised medical practices, was yesterday indicted for two offences after acknowledging the crimes to public prosecutors, before being released on bail.

Dr Phisit Tantiwatthanakul has been charged with operating and running a clinic without authorisation, and failing to supervise whether medical staff were following medical ethics regulations. The first and second offences carry a three-year prison term and/or a maximum fine of Bt60,000, and a one-year prison term and/or a maximum fine of Bt20,000, respectively.

Phisit and his lawyer met with chief prosecutor Charoendej Salyaphong for 30 minutes. They tried to avoid reporters. Charoendej set the preliminary hearing at the Criminal Court on October 9, 10am. Asked by reporters how confident he was of winning the court case, Phisit said: "See you on October 9," and left in a car.

Charoendej said later that a working team would be set up to study evidence against Phisit provided by the police, along with a 100-page investigation report.

Phisit owns All IVF clinic in the Phloenchit area in Bangkok, which allegedly performed a number of unauthorised surrogacy operations, including for Japanese man Mitsutoki Shigeta.
