The islands of Similan, Surin and Ta Chai reopen to tourist season

PHANG-NGA, 18 October 2014 (NNT) – A large number of Thai and foreign tourists are flocking into ferries heading to the islands of Surin, Ta Chai and Similan, recognized as 1 of 10 most beautiful archipelagoes in the world.

Mr. Nath Kongkasorn, Chief of Mu Ko Similan National Park said that in the rainy season, the islands are usually hit by monsoons which bring strong wind and high wave. Therefore, the national park needs to close the three archipelagoes for six months in order to ensure safety for tourists and allow the nature around the park to recover.

After the weather returns to normal, the park then reopens the archipelagoes for sightseeing and diving, this time from 15 October 2014 until 15 May 2015. The park chief also welcomed the news that tourists had recently spotted about 20 dolphins swimming alongside their boats, making their visits even more impressive.

So far the National Park has revamped all facilities including restaurants, toilets, camping sites and hotels, making them ready to welcome tourists from around the world. However, the Park is required to declare the islands closed periodically in case of bad weather.
