When I bridge my modem with ip 192.168.1.1 and use my dlink router in pppoe, I can no longer log into the modem. Do I need to change the routers IP address to higher than 1.1? thanks

To answer my own question, seems the only way is plug the modem directly into your computer to be able to log into it.

depending on how intelligent is your routeur, you could try to change your modem's ip to 0.1 and try to access it from the browser, it might work if not, then maybe your routeur can be configured to access the modem from its wan port.

The modem and the router each require a unique address. I usually assign my router the address of 192.168.1.1 and modems usually come with that as their default address, so I always change the modem to 192.168.0.1 and set up the router to connect to the modem gateway with that address. All my computers, notepads, and smartphones then use unique ip addresses of 192.168.1.nnn to communicate with my router, which in turn communicates with my modem using the 192.168.0.1 gateway address to access the internet with the providers IP address whatever they assign.
