We have a 4 1/2 – 5 year old spayed female Bull-terrier up for adoption. Her name is Bullie.

She has been abandoned by her (French) owner and dumped at my place. Now, she spends most of the time in the kennels. And bullies aren't kennel dogs; they need lots of human contact.
At her former home she was mainly kept outside in the garden. Proper socialization and training were not words that occurred in the former owner’s vocabulary. Initially she was still 'cute' but as she grew up the owner started seeing her mostly as a nuisance .... and with that her problems grew: excessive barking, tail chasing, sub-missive peeing. And, she is reactive towards other animals.

At the kennel I hardly hear her barking. Sometimes she reacts on other dog's barking, but then quiets down within a minute or two. With us she understands now that attention-seeking barking makes us walk away instead of what she hoped for 'makes us go to her'. And as this kind of barking consistently had no success, she stopped doing that.

She is very responsive to clicker training (because it is seen by her as fun-interaction with the trainer), and does well as long as you stay under threshold. As her tail-chasing is pure stress-related it diminishes considerably with increased fun-interaction. Also her sub-missive urination hasn’t occurred in a while anymore.
However, she is still not compatible with other dogs, cats, chicken and other critters.
Lovely with people, though.

Bullie can stay alone for a few hours without any problems. In the night she is quiet, with the occasional alarm bark. However, when kept loose at night in the garden she may become easier alerted by noise and movements and with that she may bark more. In my experience, dogs in general, are more quiet and less alert when they are kept in the house, or in a dog-bench, -kennel, -crate or -cage at night. At LuckyDogs-TH she sleeps in the kennels at night … on a blanket with the fan on.
Like so many white bullies, she is prone to skin problems. At the moment she doesn't show any symptoms as you can see on the pics. But then ...since with me she is fed a raw food diet. As soon as she receives 2 days dry food you see her belly expand and after a short while the skin problems return.

Anyone out there who is a Bullie-lover and is willing to give this little girl the love, attention and security she has been lacking for such a long time?

your post has driven me to tears. a good example of a dog being the product of its nurture not her inbuilt nature. I already have two dogs (GR and shitzhu) plus a rescued cat (still nervous) so can't take Bullie in but do hope your efforts ensure she has a nice home and proper care going forward ... hope if you achieve that you will repost

Is she an alpha female ? I am sure she would be ok with my boys, but I have an alpha female pitbull, who is very calm and generous, but still a pitbull and still dominant

I was ready where laws in the UK were controversial as some critics argue that it should be the owners who are punished for breeding such dogs purely for there agressive behaviour as banning the dogs altogether is the wrong way to go.

This breed and its variants like Pit Bull should basically never be owned in private hands. Owned by trained dog handlers, ok, but these breeds were bred for centuries to fight and the idea that that is out of them due to owners' love is just emotional nonsense. You can not "just love" the fighter out of the breed; you must dominate it in the most tight methods which can only be described at best as "tough love."

The most important point and the source of the very real danger these breeds present is that they have been bred (sometimes the breeding is amplified by training) TO FIGHT THE ALPHA DOG. The breeds must, from their genes, be willing to fight ANY dog even if that dog is recognized as the boss or top dog. That means that these dogs WILL ATTACK YOU even if you feel you have established Alpha Dog status with them with or without a pack.

This latter fact is what makes these breeds so dangerous and anyone who thinks otherwise is sadly allowing emotion to over weigh facts.

P.S., human toddlers are their ideal prey.

A neighbor keeps one, and she is as sweet and friendly as any other well-raised dog I've known.
