BANGKOK, Oct 21 -- Japan wonders if Thailand will contract it or China to build Thai railways and satellite projects, according to Thai Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Yuthavong.

Mr Yongyuth said Japan's ambassador to Thailand Shigekazu Sato met him yesterday to ask if Thailand would choose Japan or China to help develop its railways and satellites.

DPM Yongyuth said he replied that the Thai government would have to study relevant details thoroughly first and would select the country that would transfer technologies and support Thailand as a technological hub concerning such projects.

He said Japan had done so by developing Thailand into an automobile production base for Southeast Asia.

Mr Yongyuth said Thailand asked Japan to transfer robotic technology for Thailand to build robots to take care of the elderly and people with disabilities.

The transfer could happen in the form of joint ventures in Thailand.

The Thai government also asked Japan to transfer satellite technology to enable Thailand to build its own satellites.

In addition,Thailand asked Japan to share its database and measures that will support the control of the Ebola virus disease, Mr Yongyuth said. (MCOT online news)

Japan electronics and motor industry accounts for a sizable chunk of technology and industry here in Thailand , I don't see them having much of a choice but to partner with Japan as they have basically been doing for years

They will end up going with China because it's cheaper, but they should instead be partnering with Japan and attempting to set up a low cost production base for Japanese companies as they have with automobiles. China will want everything built in China and will only sell it to Thailand.

Clarification does not exist in the Thai language.

I know of a lot of foreign countries that need 'clarification' about events in Thailand that have happened in recent years (such as people falling off balconies, being accused of wearing a bikini when one wasn't, beach accidents committed by 'foreigners', beach scams in which the local BIB are not involved and couldn't care less, etc), but because of 'legal loopholes' that separate the rich from the poor, which make certain people 'untouchable', after having had 'private (financially laden) meetings', I'd suggest Japan invests in places like Laos and Myanmar, in order to give the 'innocent' a chance.

How are you going to connect Japanese rail to a Chinese systems ? The prize is connecting the Chinese rail system. Three is already a road from Kunming to Bangkok through Loas. It is an 18 hour drive or a 9 hour train ride. World's largest economy only a couple of hundred kilometers from the Thai boarder.

There is not enough money in Thaiand to finance a high speed system of any real length.

"... Thai government would have to study relevant details thoroughly first and would select the country that would transfer technologies ..."

Go with China that has stolen technology from Japan. It will be cheaper as the Chinese will have no cost for R&D.

It would cost 10,000 times more to build robots to take care of the elderly than hiring workers to do the job. Even if they could build the robots they couldn't maintain them. A robot changing the bed pan. I think not.

What are these people thinking?

That's because the Chinese, as usual, are very greedy people. Big on receiving, but small on giving. When will OZ, NZ, CND and the US wake-upcoffee1.gif?

Ask yourself a simple question.

Did China invade/ occupy Thailand during WW Two or did the Japs?

The Chinese began (invading) "colonizing" Thailand 300+ years agwai2.gif , but Shhhh! Don't tell that to the indigenous Thais, who watch "television" all day long. whistling.gif

Go into the shops and look at the goods for sale at least half of everything on display is made in China. Go into Thai Watsadu and 85% of what's available for sale is made in China. Even the products from Japanese companies!
