Construction of 181 police stations to begin on Jan 1
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Deputy National Police chief Pol General Pongsapat Pongcharoen said yesterday that construction of 181 new police stations would kick off on January 1.

The National Council for Peace and Order has approved the funds to build 215 new police stations in 59 provinces in a move to solve space shortage problems.

Pongsapat said the project would use funds allocated in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, adding that project would be done in a transparent manner to prevent corruption and construction delays as had happened in the past.

He said of the 181 stations, only Khao Cha-ngok police station in Chachoengsao had yet to name a contractor.

He went on to say that the police legal office and the Office of Public Works would evaluate the damage incurred by the abandonment of the project to build 396 police stations approved by the Abhisit Vejjajiva government so it can seek compensation from the contractor. He said the damage was estimated to be around Bt8 billion.

"Pongsapat said the project would use funds allocated in the 2015-2016 fiscal year..."

That explains why there's been an increase of motor vehicles being stopped for "violations". whistling.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif

Is is 215 or 181? What kind of reporting is this?

It is the reading that is the problem, not the reporting.

215 have been approved. 181 will start construction on January 1.

"approved the funds to build 215 new police"

"construction of 181 new police stations would kick off on January 1."

Sounds like another way to cream off even more money or am I missing something.

Local to where I live several stations were started about 4 years ago only to be abandoned.

The shells are near completion in a couple and would not be difficult to finish.

Why on earth are we not hearing of the original contractor being sued?

Instead just further allocation of budget and promises of transparency just doesn't cut it for this taxpayer.

Systems in place are so ad hoc and dysfunctional that nothing surprises .

So does that mean that the 181 stations already funded and paid at a cost of Bt8 billion by the Abhisit Vejjajiva government but not built has disappeared? And yet it's the Democrats who insisted on bringing reform to government for greater transparency and accountability during and after the overthrow of the Yingluck's administration. The whole reform efforts seems like the corrupt leading the corrupt.

IIRC, the DSI eventually found Democrats had nothing to do with the project. Pol Gen Pongsapat (a now PTP politician) apparently signed off on the project.
