Hi , i have TOT wi-net in the house and i have purchased an ipcam, the only problem is i have no router in the house only the TOT box (Ubiquiti type box i think ) and connected to that a d-link wifi extender..

When i do the ipcam search through the supplied software on my notebook pc , i can see the ipcam via a LAN cable to the notebook , but it wont assign it an ip address....

My service has dynamic ip address and not a fixed one, as in when i reset or power offf my internet i get a different IP address , can anyone in the know help me set this IPcam up with the system i have please...very kind regards

On your IPCAM You need to enter the configuration menu and assign 'static' IP address (on your LAN but not part of the DHCP Pool), Subnet (usually 255.255.255.0), and Gateway IP (your local router)

If you want to see the IPCAM via the Internet you will also need to create a PORT FORWARD entry in your router (providing Lan IP and Port). Then, as Jiu-Jitsu suggests, get a noip account that assign you a memorable url/domain name (ie: Peepcam.freebeer.com) that can be periodically updated to resolve that name to your current (if ever changing) IP address. Note: to provide an update, usually the IPCAM software, the Router software, or an always-on PC running special software can keep the noip.com service up to date with your most current Public IP address.

Sorry guys, i have tried and i cant even see a live camera on my notebook, connected directly to my LAN port.

As i said, my rouyer is not a router, it just has a small box connected to the cable coming from the dish on my roof, with the addition of a wifi d-link extender..

subnetmask...255.255.255.0

gateway and primary DNS...192.168.101.1

with current ip add at the time ....192.168.101.207

I gave my camera an ip of...192.168.101.15

as i dont know what the ip address range is....

But when i try to open the ip address through firefox and the camera finding software , the camera does not connect..

Oh and the default port on the camera software is 81

AND i cant get into the controls of the wi-net box as they are passworded by TOT...so i dont know if port 81 is open or needs to be...thanks

How did you give your IPCAM an IP address? Did the software find it after you connected it to your Laptop Ethernet Port?

If your Laptop Ethernet Port is issued an IP Address in the same subnet used by the camera then you can pull up the camera via the IP address of 192.168.101.15:81 <- the :81 is important as normally the web browser defaults to use port 80 unless directed otherwise.

Let's see if we can help a bit here with understanding your setup.

TOT Wi-NET uses a Radio Link/Router box that's mounted on a pole with it's internal antenna pointed to a nearby tower.

The small 'box' you see is NOT the router, but most likely a simple Power-Over-Ethernet DC injector/adapter used get power to the real Router (WiNet Radio) that's located outside, up on that tall pole.

Connecting the IPCAM directly to the Ethernet port on your Laptop won't work unless you know what you are doing and why you are doing it.

The Ethernet Port on your laptop is independent/isolated from the WLAN WiFi connection, You can use it but it won't pass data though the WiFi Wireless connection and onto the Internet without you adding special bridging software. But you can use it independently (just use an IP address away from your normal LAN).

For TESTING, you can use the Laptop Ethernet Port by opening the Wired Ethernet properties and change the IPv4 options from DHCP to STATIC and give it a static IP address (unique, not used by other device) maybe try 192.168.2.2. Then give your IPCAM an IP address of 192.168.2.3 -- this *might* work if the Ethernet port can autosense the cable wiring correctly. If you have already connected to the camera via this Ethernet cable, then you already know it works. This is just for testing. The IP address to use in the browser for testing would be 192.168.2.3:81

What you need is to ADD an ETHERNET SWITCH, a device that has multiple Ethernet Ports.

You insert the Ethernet Switch in between the POE Adapter and the WiFi Access Point (wifi d-link extender). This lets any Ethernet equipment have access to your LAN and connect to the ROUTER out up on the pole.

(By the way, your working LAN is 192.168.101.2 - 192.168.101.254, 192.168.101,1 is the Router/Gateway, 192.168.101.255 is reserved and should not be used. What is unknow is what the DHCP IP Pool range is set to).

While you can do all this, the problem you will eventually hit head on is getting access to the WiNet Router to open/pass port 81 (no password).
