BANGKOK, Oct 27 -- Thailand's investment in constructing and improving basic infrastructure projects undertaken by the Transport Ministry will exceed Bt3 trillion, according to Transport Minister ACM Prajin Juntong.

Air Chief Marshal Prajin said an eight-year strategic plan, expected to start from the first quarter of 2015, also involves construction of dual-track rail routes likely to begin in 2016.

When finished, the dual-track rail routes would account for 22.3 per cent of the total rail route distance in Thailand.

ACM Prajin said the ministry would accelerate electric-powered train projects aimed at solving traffic congestion as well as developing highways and motorways, construction of new harbours, expanding Suvannabhumi Airport under Phase 2 and Don Mueang Airport as well.

Deputy Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, meanwhile, said the interim government has indicated that construction contracts for all the delayed projects would be signed in December while actual construction could start during the first quarter of 2015.

Mr Arkhom, also secretary-general of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), said he is confident Thailand’s exports in 2015 would grow more than 5 per cent and this would help push the country’s economic growth to exceed the 3.5-4.5 per cent level projected earlier by NESDB.

Mr Arkhom said Thailand’s growth next year is expected to be rosy after the International Monetary Fund recently revised world economic growth projection to 3.8 per cent from 3.3 per cent for next year while the World Bank also adjusted global economic growth to 3.2 from 2.6 per cent. In the past that meant 2 trillion missing, 1 trillion used for shoddy work, lets hope new government does not have hands in the till.

That's one hell of a lot of backhanders coming soon!

It's enough to net 1 billion each for family members, such as Bro. et al., in readiness for upcoming retirements in 2016, alledged retirements that is..

Edit: a few billion or even 20 billion pales into insignificance compared to 3 trillion facepalm.gif ??? This is a direct piss-take out of Thaksin... clap2.gif

However, not really good for the honest folk, of which there are NONE at the top anymore, including his truly - Ocha oscar (c.f. Noel Edmonds)

Accept for the tea money the cost will increase by 50% or more over the next 8 years. An old government trick, first commit to a lower amount and after you start implementation the costs increase every year. Any future government will be locked in by these contracts and will face the problem of repayment.

Smutscakes given the position of the economy, the rate of tax collection and tempo they are handing out money, these projects will have to be financed by loans and or bonds. If they try to finance it on budget, given the existing position, the budget deficit will double. The interesting fact thats missing is that the government may only borrow up to 50% of GDP. With the economy slowing down and the costs increasing they will go over this legal limit. Another side comment is if they finance these projects off budget they will do exactly the same as what PTP wanted to do and was strongly opposed by many TV members, Dems and yellows.

You may be right, you may be wrong, either way we dont know as they have not said anything despite this new era of transparency.

I doubt they would be funded from within budget as the budget is already 100's of billion in debt.

I am sure they will be financed exactly as the PTP planned on doing it.

If you look at how the oil and gas drilling was handled there are no more transparency than in the past. There was no public process involved and very few details given on drilling concessions thats potentially bigger money than the mega projects.

Not even 6 months in the job and they're probably already the highest spending government of the modern era.

Populist policies...anyone??

Plus 3 years of utter neglect to also fund.

In Dubai is an investor who loves all Thai. Give him the possibility to save Thailand.

Chalerm, the best future teller of Thailand, already gave this advertisement.

Any news on how this is being funded?

Beg, steal and borrow!!whistling.gif

I can tell you that it wont be by out of budget borrowing without transparency.

It will be budgeted for over the life of the projects and as we all know a budget must be presented each year and is open to scrutiny.

The amount of work needed shows how much things have been allowed to run down over the last decade.

Finally we are seeing something actually being done not just empty promises of what will be done when bills are passed to get hold of out of budget money.

No ginjag not utter neglect, a lot worse than that, what it amounts to is ripping off the country, add up the losses from the populist policies, rice scheme, tablets, new cars and all the others then add in all the spending on themselves such as an overseas trip on average every 2 weeks for the previous MP and her entourage in their chartered plane, air con in the garbage room, expensive antique coffee tables and an all the rest and the infrastructure improvements could have been mostly paid for.

To call much need infrastructure improvements such as double tracking and upgrading a neglected rail system and upgrading roads populist is plain stupidity, but then those who cant even admit that these things are needed have little else.

BANGKOK, Nov 19 – The Thai government’s two trillion baht infrastructure development programme will help contribute to GDP growth next year, Minister of Finance Kittiratt Na-Ranong said yesterday

But look what I read in May this year, form the happy bunch, looks like they are retracting on their promises already.

75 million years ago, there was an alien galactic ruler named Xenu who was in charge of 76 planets in our part of the galaxy, including our own planet Earth, whose name at that time was Teegeeack.

All of the planets Xenu controlled were over-populated by, on average, 178 billion people. Social problems dictated that Xenu rid his sector of the galaxy of this overpopulation problem, so he developed a plan.

Xenu sent out Tax Audit demands to all these billions of people. As each one entered the audit centers for the income tax inspections, the people were seized, held down and injected with a mixture of alcohol and glycol, and frozen. Then, all 1.4 trillion of these frozen people were put into spaceships that looked exactly like DC8 airplanes, except that the spaceships had rocket engines instead of propellers.

Xenu's entire fleet of DC8-like spaceships then flew to planet Earth, where the frozen people were dumped in and around volcanoes in the Canary Islands and the Hawaiian Islands. When Xenu's Air Force had finished dumping the bodies into the volcanoes, hydrogen bombs were dropped into the volcanoes and the frozen space aliens were destroyed.......

I always wondered what sort of gullible fool could fall for something as ridiculous and farcical as Scientology .

After reading your post and seeing how you've bought into and accepted as fact every bit of yellow propaganda to have ever fallen from the lying lips of the dying establishment - I now know.

had to laugh because of course this 'government' is spending money like there's no tomorrow, but with the last elected-government, the royalist-elites and military pulled all the levers at their disposal to stop the government from functioning.

how much easier governing is when you don't have any opposition or accountability to the people.
