Top things Thai people don't like about Farang

Recommended Posts

Sounds like you're saying higher class Thais resent loso Thais getting a break via the farang highway! Great! I love it!

Sent from my Lenovo S820_ROW using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Kind of like that. Hi so Thais send the children to the West to be educated and when everyone sees what dummies the Western system produces they are hard pressed to get the kids to endure 4 years of college in forsaken places like Oxford or Cambridge Massachusetts.

I don't think you can judge the output of the western education system by the kind of people that wash up in the bars of Thailand.

What do the people on Thai Visa judge the Thai education system on? Farmers from Issan?

As I understand it, Thai people generally don't like people who are deliberately argumentative.

True enough. Thai people judge Western education by what they see in Thailand.

I don't know. Have you ever watched the Thai Parliament on TV? Although in light of recent current events certainly some people in power don't like people who argue at all.

I'm possibly what you refer as a "rig pig" well I do work in the industry, I always thought those digital nomads were guys who spent half their working day making computer games and the other half of the day playing them, not so brilliant in my opinion,,,, oops sorry my mistake for misunderstanding what a digital nomad really is,,

A wee suggestion for you, best to remove the blinkers,, there are some quite brilliantly educated "rig pigs" as I'm sure there are taxi drivers out there

A thought from my mistake in first paragraph, best not to comment too much on what you may be incorrect about,,

thailiketoo" quote]

OK I'll be straight with you. Obviously you don't speak Thai and have never had a serious conversation with a Thai person. Most Thais are exposed to retired London taxi drivers and oil rig workers who have middle aged women from Issan with two juvenile delinquent children from a previous man; hardly the cream of the eligible crop of Thai superstars. I don't know how much wisdom you expect out of taxi drivers or rig pigs; I would not count on too much but the new crop digital nomads do make them look like brain trusts.

The topic is what Thai people don't like about Farangs. I would say they abhor the lack of critical thinking skills/education that allow the lowest level of Thai society to remove so much cash from these uneducated country bumpkins from the West with such regularity.

Sorry you misunderstood me. I said rig pigs and taxi drivers were brain trusts (very smart people) in comparison to the latest crop of digital nomads.

Yep, apologies,, that one you're correct on, I did misunderstand part of your post,, but still suggest you consider my second paragraph

2nd paragraph, "A wee suggestion for you, best to remove the blinkers,, there are some quite brilliantly educated "rig pigs" as I'm sure there are taxi drivers out there"

Ya I said that, "brain trusts."

Old people.

Way too many nasty old farangs in Thailand. They need to leave the women alone. Go home.

Yeah, being an old farang, I can understand the nasty old farang issue. Most of the real curmudgeons like to sit around and nurse vile beer while they talk about soccer, er, football, just like they do back home. Unhappy there, same same here. I wouldn't mind if they went home, either. I mean, who needs a bunch of hung-over, dispeptic football hooligans around anyway, right? Of course, I'm not talking about any particular country here... I guess one good thing about them, from a Thai's POV: they're virtually NO THREAT to Thai women

However, with regard to the women: Thailand, like most countries in the world, is home to some of the world's most beautiful women. And, from what I can tell, the place has more than its share of over-30 beautiful, healthy, intelligent, SANE, and lonely women. Sure, they can use our money, just like women everywhere. Big deal. They're worth it, many of them. Maybe it's an Asian thing, but throwing women under the bus after they hit 30 is pretty strange, if you ask me, and it's no wonder western men take advantage of the situation.

No doubt but they are not often found among the white immigrants who wash ashore in Thailand, who are, collectively, a truly awful collection of people. Really. What a depressingly stupid, ignorant, offensive, arrogant, blundering collection of oafs. Is there a group of people on the planet whose self-image is so at odds with reality? Surely not. So in answer to the OP, whatever it is, it's not enough.

That's not how I would characterise my many former colleagues who currently work in Thailand.

Maybe you socialise with the wrong crowd; or perhaps you are athletic in your ability to leap to presumptions

Mind yer French Cowboy - it's pointless tae speculait

I rather concentrate on what Thais like.

Their own language spoken by a foreigner. Generous tips. Chatting. Being introduced to other Farang. Hiring them to work on a faring house. Seeing Farang attending the temple and giving rice to the monks. Seeing you participating in daily activities. Seeing you enjoying Thai food. Sharing an occasional beer. Seeing you abstaining from alcohol 90% of the time. Seeing you respecting their cultural practises like fae kimah , spirit dance, blessing a new house or an old house. Seeing you at Thai funerals with full participation. Seeing you at thai holidays with you participating. Being kind to their children by giving them money or a kanom. If you do all these things and more, Thai people will not be offended by your little indiscretions.

100% correct.

But do understand that this means they only like farang who acts like a thai. Generally they love everything thai and dislike everything foreign.

If you ask thais what kind of movies, music, tv-shows, food, culture, art. etc. they like, the answer is always thai. If they could choose a holiday in Paris, Rome or somewhere in Thailand , it would be easy choice for them, Thailand!

They don't know much about outside world so obviously it's hard to like something you don't know. They don't know what's there to see in Rome or Paris so why would they wanna go there?

  • 3 years later...

The only thai who has been openly very rude to me are younger bkk thais. Like 15-18 year old.

One of them was shockingly rude to me on the Skytrain to the point i considered dragging him out at the next stop and beating him up but he was just a kid and he had his girlfriend with him. I still don't know why he starting saying racial slurs and insults to me in English out of the blue.

For the record most random Thais describe me as "Hi-so" so i'm not exactly walking around with a Singha singlet on me and i'm young-ish.

Still i try to be patient with young men since they usually don't have a clue about anything (neither did i at that age).

Being well presented certainly seem to help but it also seems to make some rural Thais very uncomfortable around me, even those in the entertainment business.

That 15 year old kid was only 12 when this topic was started.

Poor young smelly backpackers and young western mean who want sex for free and do not know enough about Thai Culture to know age is revered because it means they survived and have money and old style manners. You are projecting your faults not theirs.  They really do hate back packs.

So why do the Thai girls love Hip Hop EDM UDM Electrop RnB Techno?

Incredibly incorrect, although admittedly it is a three year old post.

Most of the Thai people I know (my wife, her friends, previous work colleagues etc) are really interested in lots of western things (movies, music, food, culture etc). The young generation is far different nowadays and you can see that, especially in Bangkok.

I have not once, and I mean this 100% truthfully, known my wife (28 years old) to ever watch a Thai TV show, a Thai movie or listen to Thai music since we have lived together. That is in nearly five years, and we've been together seven in total. She just isn't interested in that stuff.

We've lived in the UK together, travelled to Europe three times, been to America etc. She loves travelling and seeing the world, and would much rather go somewhere new and different to what she knows in Thailand. Also funny that two of her top three places we've been to are Paris and Rome. She is very proud to be Thai and loves lots of things here, but that doesn't mean she loves everything in Thailand.

If a Thai person has the mindset you mention above then that is clearly not someone to ever contemplate being with. It would be unbearable to be with anyone so narrow minded and simple in their views.

You really don't like farangs do you.

In conclusion to you post, you are either a thai with a massive chip on the shoulder or a foreigner who is strangely ashamed of his own race. Quite sad either way.

Maybe you should go read another thread if you can't handle this one. The purpose of the thread is to state things Thais don't like about Farangs, and that poster did. If you can't handle it, go read something else.
