Thai tourism operators disagree with ban on beach parties

These parties are run by private families, who were lucky to have had a foothold in the area at the start of the party.

For example the fullmoon party, started some twenty odd years ago, was because a popular Aussie guy who was working in a bar ,called the Drop In ,( Drop Dead) was leaving after many years to return home.

The owner of that bar decided to have a going away party for him and it coincided with the fullmoon.

After the success if this party it all kicked off, the owner of the bar and his associates on Haad Rin beach have made fortunes over the years and are like sharks in a feeding frenzie now about it , because of the money involved , thats why they are not stopping this party. One family connected to many .

Also the local BIB have been kept in a lifestyle they would not have, anywhere else in this forsaken Country, .

The Army have been told by the locals, who they fear on the island and that family was mentioned,

Yea so they are going to stop it, ha and pigs will fly !

Tourist Officials , my ass, it the money the backpackers bring, and they are sick about losing that, but i doubt they will for long , back to norm , when , if ever, the dust settles about Koa Tao.

Which we all agree it should NEVER !

"The operators, however, have expressed concern that the ban may discourage tourists from visiting tourist destinations in Surat Thani."

It would be nice to know who "the operators" are? Are they just a few beach party owners, or are we talking the hotel associations? My guess is the hotel associations have no problem with such a ban, as it means their guests can actually sleep at night.

Sleep at night? That must be why people travel halfway around the world to visit Thailand - to have a vacation goal of sleeping at night. Might as well have the Junta reimpose martial law - dinner before 9pm, then bedtime.

regulation/licensing

and policing

would help

banning is not the answer

agreed.

Specifically on KT, there are beaches with the resort parties - Sairee beach, for example, and others which are more quiet, Chalok comes to mind. What would be an excellent idea would to have a minimum of zoning related to the types of night activities so that people looking for parties will be served, and people looking to relax will be served. This doesn't exist in any tourist area in Thailand that I am aware of....

Not only would that make islands like Koh Tao more agreeable/appealing to all tourists, it would allow the police to focus their attention with regard to protecting tourists.

The sad Koh Tao killings had no association to a party...

The parties, not only The Full Moon, brings in a lot of tourists and revenue to Koh Tao and Koh Samui...

Bzzz. Wrong. Next.

Thanks - of course Koh Phangan and Koh Samui... wink.png

Yes stop all the parties, Thailand wants 'high end' tourists not those backpacker poor types. Quality old tourists is what they need, no one going to rush to rape grannies. Besides, those student types are a bad influence on Thais, they wouldnt be taking drugs if it wasnt for those farang. (sarcasm for the slow amongst us)
