Info here: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service/birth-of-a-u.s.-citizen-in-thailand.html

DNA Examinations
When it is not possible to conclusively determine a biological relationship between the U.S. citizen parent and the child, the Consular Officer may recommend DNA testing be completed to most effectively establish biological relations. This will involve the supervised taking of saliva samples from the child and the biological father and/or mother. Please do not conduct independent DNA exams. Only DNA test results from Department of State approved laboratories and coordinated through the Embassy can be used to determine a genetic relationship for citizenship purposes.
Note that DNA testing and results can take as many as 1-2 months to complete, so parents are advised to plan accordingly and to avoid scheduling travel for the child until this process has been completed.
Parents who wish to expedite the DNA testing process may pre-order the DNA kit prior to their appointment. Please select and contact a lab from the list of Department of State list of approved laboratories . As different laboratories have different fees and processes, please contact them directly to learn more about their services. Be sure to inform the laboratory of the name of the child (“Baby” and last name if not yet born) and parent(s) to be tested. Once completed, please send an email to [email protected] to provide the child’s name, the parents’ names and contact information.
Note that the Consular Report interview and DNA testing will occur on separate days, and the DNA office will be in direct contact with the parents to schedule the testing.

And, yes, the approved labs are mostly in the U.S.:

And II, no, I've not been through the process.

Thanks for the replys but copy pasting of the embassey web page i have done already

All paper work and fees have been submitted and confirmed last minute the interviewer brought up this DNA Test.....

Just wondering if anybody out there has done this before?

I was told by embassey it is because child born out of wedlok..

CRBA form very vague on the DNA subject....

If they said out of wedlok child needs DNA test then we would have gone there with test in hand....instead they spring this on us after all fees and paper work aproved...

Now require another trip to Bangkok from Phuket family in tow....

Typical government bullcrap wasteing time sucking cash......just would like to hear how other folks have done with this..

Thanks
