Arranging does two things; It lets the older and wiser members of the families make common sense decisions where the young persons would overlook those in favour of emotive things.

It also (in India's case) ensures spiritual compability.

I took on a Hindu boarder once. Nice chap and he trawled gujuratimarriagedotcom assiduously. He met a gorgeous lady back in India online. They hit it off. They fell in love (or lust, or deep attraction) and got their respective parents to meet. Stage 1 all good. Dowry and everything all good. Then the parents took both children's "birth books" to the priest. He pronounced the union incompatible based on astrology, and the wedding was off. Andy took it in his stride, and has since married a different but "astrologically compatible" beauty. He's very happy after 6 years of wedded bliss.

Forgive me for making an assumption....I don't think there is any spirituality behind your relative's decision in your case. I'm an atheist, so I'm not pushing for spirituality, however I use that lack to offer caution. If you like him, if you get the chemistry, cool..go for it. But if he displeases you, don't bow down to your aunt.

Don't resist out of principle...he might be good for a few dates or a lifetime.
