Hmm I've seen people ask this on the indonesian msg boards and there isn't an easy answer. It will cost you as there is no land border to nip across in a day. The visa is $25 per month so add that the return air travel/boat travel and your looking at $100 easily.

Expats are very few for this reason, and the visa laws are even stricter than Thailands!
