Pol Lt-Gen Pongpat, Pol Maj-Gen Kowit, and Pol Lt-Gen Pravuth Thavornsiri are all former classmates of Class 31st of Pol Gen Somyot at the Police Cadet Academy.

Meanwhile Pol. Gen Somyot remains in post and has just become half owner, along with the Samart Corporation, of the 1.2 Billion baht acquisition of a 50% plus holding in M Link (mobile phones) being sold by the Wongsawat Family. That may have made a dent in his net worth of 356 million baht, one would have thought?

Apparently he has close ties with the Vilanuck Family (who own Samart Corporation) but probably more importantly with Deputy Prime Minister Wongsuwon, who incidentally has a brother, who was the Police Chief that was sacked by abhisit, but has recently had his dismissal overturned after an appeal by PM O' Cha, which means that his pension is reinstated. No nepotism here, nothing to see.

A good job if you can get it, retain it....................................coffee1.gif

"That may have made a dent in his networth of 356 million baht"

Especially since he 2 weeks ago bought shares in WAT for 360 million baht. And is already a major shareholder in SLC and AQ.

All the mentioned shares SLC, AQ, WAT and MLINK have been involved in major sharemanipulation!!

Interesting is, that the sellers of MLINK, the Wongsawat family, is Thaksins sister and her short-time PM husband, Khun Somchai.

Just proves, yellow or red, really it is all a show for the gallery. The real God is money!!

The ministry of inactive posts already outnumbers the north Korean army and will continue until public defrocking becomes the default position here.

Maybe they could be used for building streets, or chain them together and let them clean the beaches and klongs?

A shame if you do something that will get you fired or into jail in most other countries will get you an inactive post with full salary in Thailand.....For some of them an inactive post won't be too much change to their previous post, anyway.

The problem here is that they may have not done anything wrong. They just have to be from a different police academy class / be in a different circle. Their basic salary is paltry compared to all of the 'extras' active coppers get.

No, usually these who haven't done anything get an adviser position. Not much difference.......

But yes I see your point, abuse might be possible.

K Police Finish Inquiry Over Koh Tao Murder

BANGKOK — The Scotland Yard has wrapped up its investigation into the murder of two British backpackers on Thailand's southern island of Koh Tao.

A representative of the British detective team met with Thailand’s chief of police today before leaving for the United Kingdom where he will brief the families of the two murder victims on the investigation.

Scotland Yard is damned good. They trade ideas with the US FBI which strengthens both of them. They are so much smarter than the Thais that I hope they found a smoking gun.

Is it a coincidence that it all happened on the same day?

Time will tell and I will hope.

My wife and I, both British, took 1 look at this photo.....

...and feel that the man from Scotland Yard is NOT impressed one bit. We'll have to wait until the new year to find out whether we're right or not.

I think it is very difficult now. Example the DNA sample. How can anyone tell now if it is the original sample or an exchanged one?

If total correct or total fraud it is hard to say now.

Wow! Good research. I know Mr Somyot, described as civil servant and personal investor, just became the largest investor in a capital group which just purchased a big hunk of the Nation (NMG).

Maybe as a good a top cop as top investor?

A lot of speculation, some warranted and some from 'left field'.

Thailand police needs a new broom and the sooner the better.

They already got a stiff shiny new brroom, ie The Supreme Commander of Police Dept (the PM) and his hand picked appointee the good Police Commissioner General Somyot.

Well I'm glad they didn't get fired....even in inactive posts they will still be able to draw their salaries which should be quite handsome seeing as they are high up the food chain. Plus given that they will have time on their hands, maybe they will find a way to supplement their income and come out on top....lucky chaps.

Hmmmm...... "The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) commissioner and his deputy..."

I hope they are responsible for considerable upcoming loss of face for Thailand over a certain matter.

Is that too much too hope for?

Far too much since CIB wasn't responsible for the Koh Tao investigation.

from what i am reading it could end up that way (positions to be decieded later) ?????giggle.gif

You're all being far too cynical. It's obvious that the Royal Thai Police Operations Centre suddenly had a pressing and immediate need for two fine gentlemen of their calibre and the CIB was able to spare them.

Surely if there were anything dodgy involved they'd be moved to inactive postings.

Maybe an attempt at head rolling but they did not take credit for investigation. Their boss Pol Comm G3eneral Somyot and the PM did.

Taking credit and taking responsibility are worlds apart in Thailand.

I see this as the beginning of the KT headrolling but, I may well be wrong!

Sure if there is kudos we deserve it. If something is less perfect and complete than we publicly stated, well we were mislead (by CIB? doubtful). Anyway the CIB top brass are buddies and approved appointees of the good Pol Comm Gen and by extension, the PM.

The buck stops at the top desks, unless they can get CIB or someone to admit to subversive, corrupt anti-coup conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in order to discredit the leadership. Ask a few to fall on their swords to save the Reformation. That would be interesting to see.

"Sed quis custodiet ipsos custodiens?" again No electorate or functioning 4th estate.

Far too much since CIB wasn't responsible for the Koh Tao investigation.

Why bring Koh Tao into it, remain open minded, you assume far too much.

What other "certain matter" was being referred to? Conspiracy theorists are all over the KT threads about this story.

Certainly some savvy investors out there. Samart is up 250% in 8 months.

Must help knowing what `s in the pipe line coup wise and carving up the golden goose wise. Not suggesting that any of these virtuous men would have taken advantage of insider positions, heaven forbid.

Those who say that its only the minions at the bottom who are ever targeted should note :

CAPO disbanded with Chalerm out, DSI head Tarit out, police chief out, four senior judges fired, now CIB chief and Dep out.

There have also been other senior police booted out from various positions. For sure a clear message that no one is safe in the force.

What a loss of face it must be for these people, publicly shamed by being kicked out of their high and mighty positions.

You reckon? Millions stashed away. Forced retirement. Hardly a hardship, now they can get on with their other main job.

We don`t yet know if/why they may be fired but it is not looking so good for them due to sudden public announcement. As their good buddy boss Pol Com Gen Somyot`s has a Samart investment up some %250 over last 6 months allegedly, I am sure he can give quality investment/golden parachute advice if they could help save the Reformation by falling on swords.

This is jumping the gun and perhaps nothing to do with KT after all. Timing is sudden but just coincidence?
