webfact Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Thais rage over monk robe worn by Japanese band in JapanBy Coconuts BangkokBANGKOK: -- What happens when you abuse something sacred to Thais outside of Thailand, but you're not even Thai? Obviously, you will be harassed by the righteous and have your Facebook page spammed.Japanese punk band Wat Mayhem Orchestra was forced to apologize after photos of their lead singer Takaya Yamauchi rocking out in a Buddhist monk robe went viral in Thai social media, creating an uproar. The photos were almost a year old and obviously from a show in Japan, but the time factor has never prevented an opportunity for to create drama. Remember the porn shoot that roused the Ministry of Culture to demand Penthouse Magazine apologize four years after it happened? Popular Post KarenBravo Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 Yet, when Thais dress up as Nazis and Western countries complain, the Thais think that they're being over-sensitive. 85
Popular Post HooHaa Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 wow, very similar to certain moslem sects reactions to perceived religious sleights 6
Popular Post TallGuyJohninBKK Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 So if the Japanese band guy was sporting designer sunglasses and a Louis Vuitton bag or driving expensive cars or jet-setting to other countries, I'm assuming the Thais protesting here would be equally outraged at the mis-use of Thai customs??? http://www.ndtv.com/article/world/porsche-mercedes-seized-from-disgraced-thai-monk-421414 http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2014/06/27/louis-vuitton-toting-nun-under-investigation http://www.voanews.com/content/new-thailand-hotline-targets-misbehaving-monks/1965179.html 12
Popular Post Lobo4819 Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 It's a piece of cloth, for Crysakes. Some Thais act very high and mighty as long as the finger is not pointed at them. 7
Popular Post Commerce Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 Thais should be outraged by the numbers of criminals, rapists, child molesters and murderers wearing a monk's robe in Thailand itself; living in hiding.... earning a fortune... as opposed to 1 Japanese pop band. Clean ups start in one's own backyard. I also have proof of such, so if anybody wants to shun me, go ahead. 37
Popular Post toybits Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 Now, perhaps Thais know how Jews feel when they idolize Hitler or use the Hakenkreuz (Swastika). 7
wantan Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 A real drama Live at BKK, 2011, Thai Japan Music Fest 1
Popular Post RKASA Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 It is a piece of orange cloth - a monks robe is presented to them - a ring can be worn it does not make a marriage. So many cannot see past the images in front of themselves to understand the real truth about anything. This is why they worship churches rather then have faith. 8

Popular Post teatree Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 Now, perhaps Thais know how Jews feel when they idolize Hitler or use the Hakenkreuz (Swastika). Jews were not the only people who suffered in WW2. 17
mojorison Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Insecure much? I'd be more worried about the accordion player. Jeezus. 2

Thailand Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Probably boost them to the top of the Japanese charts.

khunpa Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Well, if they spent as much energy and focus raging over really important issues, then they would have democracy and a country with no corruption. 2

Fab5BKK Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Only the Jews??? Please get your contemporary history right! Now, perhaps Thais know how Jews feel when they idolize Hitler or use the Hakenkreuz (Swastika).
noitom Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Have Thais educated Thai people that school kids and adults shouldn't dress as Nazis and Hitler? Have they enforced the naming of stars with Swastikas and Nazi symbols? The stories of all the school kids dressing as Hitler seems to have died out. Do Thais care when another culture objects to something the Thais do that offends them?
Thaddeus Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Only the Jews??? Please get your contemporary history right! Now, perhaps Thais know how Jews feel when they idolize Hitler or use the Hakenkreuz (Swastika). My father was in the RAF during the last biggie, stationed in Burma (everyone called it Burma back then and for several decades after) He died in the late seventies, so he didn't have to witness the casual bigotry through ignorance that has been displayed in Thailand in recent times. But if he had been around to witness it, I'm quite sure he would have pissed himself laughing at the display of umbrage from the Thais about a Jap group with a singer in an orange robe. Here's a quick hint for everyone, if you are looking for perfection, yourself is the last place to start. 1
Thai at Heart Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Buddhist fundamentalism. Great. I swear the govt digs up these stories to distract the people and to get them to rally round a cause. 2
Popular Post chooka Posted November 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted November 13, 2014 I didn't realise that Thailand had a patent on orange cloth or owned budhism. Didn't they also copy this from india. Thai's copy everything and then get upset when someone copies something they think is thiers. 6
