Hi

Im going to be working in New York for a bit, initially 3 months but maybe longer depending on visas, unfortunately my company cannot arrange a visa for my gf Thanya because we are not married. Therefore she will be applying for a student visa for her to join me and study english at a language school, the visa criteria is pretty much the same for the UK although the process differs in as much as the application is made online and an interview is mandatory. Just wondering if anyone has experience of the US embassy in Bangkok and any tips/advice to offer before we submit the application? Btw Im british and in London, Thanya is thai and in BKK - thanks.

I think its actually a bit harder to get to the US than even it is to the UK for Thai citizens. So i don't envy you . Also if you thought the British Immigration are rude you wait until you go for your interview at the US Embassy .. brings a whole new meaning to the word.

And then, if she gets the visa, she will have the delight of furthur rudeness and unpleasantness at immigration on arrival in the US.

Good luck anyway

I know I’m not helping much but this’s from my experience. US Student visa is quite hard to obtain if your gf doesn’t have any money.

My wife came to the US on student visa (F1) 25 yrs ago – for high school and university. She was told to bring in a cashier check of $13000 with her also (they did check for this at the airport immigration) – unless you’re on the scholarship. Her 2 siblings, all went through the same procedure and also they did interview the parents on the financial support aspect of it.

Nowaday I don’t know if it’s getter easier or harder according to the new law

But Best of luck to you
