cdmtdm
I have a few ideas on what changes Thailand needs to make, in order to rid itself of bad habits that you dont see elsewhere .... this is not meant to be an insulting topic , only serious change to obvious faults ...to improve the country going forward in ASEAN and beyond ... , 1/ Ok i guess i will start ...the main suggestion i have, is to get rid of all the TV sets in any office ..be it a bank , school, business or govt ........

stat088
Take away (or stop the use of) their mobile phones and devices at work while they are supposed to be working. It's a problem here. Is it only a problem in Thailand?
Satcommlee
Change import duty on vehicles and motorbikes would be nice Nice for you maybe... but what about the tens of thousands of jobs that would be lost if imported cars were as cheap as domestically produced cars? Satcommlee
Take away (or stop the use of) their mobile phones and devices at work while they are supposed to be working. Perhaps adopt the North Korean approach to mobile phones?
Popular Post stat088
A return to an elected government and no more coups. Also a serious attempt to reduce corruption. It's wishful thinking but something I really want for my kids. I am not choosing sides. Edited November 20, 2014 by stat088

Popular Post Seastallion
Education reform, perhaps starting with teacher training. Attitudes have to change, starting at the top. Put an end to corruption...again starting at the top. 'Immigration reform. Get tougher on undesirables, ease restrictions on desirables. Public education regarding road rules. Instill the attitude that the rules work if everyone obeys them all the time! Get tough on minor breaches through to serious offences. Environmental awareness and concern, including water conservation.

eldragon
Improve education and reduce corruption. Better highway safety and general sanitation would help too. I'd also like to see more green space in the cities.
yellowboat
Change? As to what end? Most change will be bad. Thailand is a nice country. Quit trying to make it the west. Education is not a western trait. The Chinese speaking country to the north values education to the extreme. Education in Thailand is lacking. Also, Thais are capable, but government tariffs and silly immigration rules are hurting trade and the economy.

Popular Post awayego
It has to start with a root and branch overhaul of education, looking for best practice wherever it may be particularly out side Thailand. In trying to correct the perceived faults in Thailand (corruption, nepotism, insularity, over-inflated and misguided patriotism, xenophobia, poor education etc) one must try to overcome the long established culture which created those faults. That, IMHO, can only be done through education and creating a populace that is more open-minded, free thinking and questioning. I'm not saying that is possible here because of the deeply embedded culture that exists. In my mind, Thai people are more like 'serfs' and deserve so much better. They need to be 'liberated', not particularly in the Western sense - Buddha knows Western, so-called civilised and enlightened, countries are far from perfect - but to find their own place in the world and no longer be slaves to all that is wrong in their culture and history. After education and cultural reform then, in an ideal world, everything else can be addressed - a 'clean slate' as it were. Wishful thinking I know but I love Thailand and Thai people deserve so much more than they get now.

Could it be that the current rote learning system was introduced by the ruling classes to produce followers, not people who can think outside the box?
