Hi

You need the right local people to take care must do things.

What kind of business you are looking at in Myanmar?

If you want to do business in Myanmar you need 3 things Patience, Patience and Patience. Thats what a lawyer told me 3 years ago when I was helping a Thai firm who was trying to investigate relocating here from Thailand after its factory was destroyed by floods. They stayed in Thailand.

So no quick bucks to be made here.

It depends on what you want to do here. Firstly you pretty much need a local partner.

Construction seems to be humming with local contractors.

Industrial stuff has big problems with electricity and logistics.

Investment in Mining and Oil for big boys is a possibility.

Telecommunications is booming with Telenor and Ooreedoo entering the market.

What most of the Thai people and businesses I have dealt with fail to realise is the economy here is very small and just sheer population numbers does not equate to Thailand numbers and spending power.

Also the logistics from Thailand is really bad. This will change when new road opens Myawaddi to Kawkareik late 2015

Great opportunities if you are interested in farming enterprises, but few people seem to go for that.

Opportunities in clothing manufacture and this is well established.

Fisheries are collapsing, teak is all gone.

Gem trade is still pretty good if you know what you are doing.

What ever you do it is small market, difficult logistics and low margins.

I have worked on a few govt. tenders and the prices are cut throat, rules tough, it is a very discouraging process.

Property prices and rents and setup costs are high for foreigners. More expensive than Thailand.

How thats sound? One stop shop? Havent found that must be the Investment Commission.
