BANGKOK, Nov 24 -- Thai Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Defence Gen Prawit Wongsuwan says the on-going moves against the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) have not expanded, though he believes there is a mastermind behind the movement of students against the council.

The defence minister said that the act of distributing leaflets against the NCPO could be carried out by only one person, as a poll has shown that the majority of the people does not agree with acts against the council.

However, the minister noted that any opinion could be freely expressed, but would like those people who are against the military government to refrain from carrying out actions that could cause disunity and disrupt, as the government is trying its best to bring the nation back to peace and harmony.

The deputy premier stressed that he believes that there is someone encouraging the students to do what they did.

He emphasized that the government has asked for year to bring the country back to prosperity, which is now going in accord with the roadmap, and sought media help to clarify the situation to students who do not understand that the government is doing its best for the nation. (MCOT online news)

I doubt that this is true, there are many more than one that could do it. Some of them are young and idealistic, they are the ones to be admired for the strength of their convictions. Some of them are cynical, and some of them shout democracy but are in it for personal gain, they deserve our scorn. Then there is one person who has already stated that democracy is not the end goal, he should be in jail.

By restricting freedom of expression you are forcing it underground , there are always people with varying opinions and dare I say it Minister, opinions are like arsoles everyone has one and in a democracy every opinion counts , what's the point in stifling debate then in 18 months time you hold General elections and they can say (within reason ) what they like or are your reforms going to say that they can't

There is probably someone or some people behind the scenes; but if allied with students maybe not?

Just saying it puts a focus on the need to treat further student action with much more force.

The Government appears to want to quash any descent in the local and foreign press; I would imagine by doing this is showing the world the righteousness of the military actions. Any disruption seems to be a severe embarrassment?

You are quite to the point with your comparison with a...holes, and everybody having one, maybe more than you know... (You should have left the 'democracy' bit out though, as there has never been anything such here, and it might take quite some time to come anywhere near to being able to start(!) the long process of becoming one).

An a...hole is indeed part of everyone's anatomy, it has a main natural function, and there is no problem with that either, as long as it happens in secluded private spaces, and the... bearer/carrier has enough knowledge of personal hygiene not to rejoin the company of others before having it cleaned up properly(?!).

The real problem is though when malafide persons knowingly feed the said bearers/carriers, here energetic, privileged(!) and gullible young persons, ...students with corrupted nutriments full of burnt oil and fermentating components, it leads the boys and girls to a state of uncontrolled explosive diarrhoea...

And Gen Prawit was very right to say IMO that behind this NOT genuine movement of, some, of the students, there is a mastermind! Sorry to have to add, and still IMO, that, in the good old proven logic of: look for who the crime profits to, there's not much choice: whether it's Thaksin, a Shin, some of their minions, or some hired 'PR' guys AGITATING the students, AND their mentors who should know, much, better but have the fear to be 'minimalised' in a new more social Thai society...

For what elections are concerned, what is it that you personally want the most to have? Elections in 18 months, any kind of, also as corrupted and rigged as before, or, are you a true democrat and want open, free, fair and honest elections, as soon as possible, even when having therefore to take place 'sometime' later? I'd go for N°2 anytime, but, hey, I had the chance to be born in an, old, democracy; what would you go for: N°1?

Goldstein was behind all opposition to the state because 'free-thinking' people could not help but support the state and revere the leadership. While that is not a total inaccurate statement, it is a pretty broad statement. Are you saying that there aren't a single smart student or are you just claiming only those that are standing up against the junta are braindead?
