Hi all

I'm kind of new to all this visa stuff. I would be very grateful for any advice!!

I'm currently in thailand on a tourist visa. The thing is I really don't want to leave

I have a nice thai girl were not married but we have been seeing eachother for a while now

My tourist visa ends in a few weeks! I'm thinking is it possible to get a visitor visa while I'm here

Or do I need to go back the uk and apply???

If anyone has any advice please help

You can go to e.g. to Laos for a new tourist visa. There are many many threads about that, just browse a little.

You can only obtain a 30 days extension, after which you will need to leave country to get a new touris visa, double entry if you want. At this time you cannot apply for a non-immigrant visa, because you do not have any of the requirements.

What are aims

To apply for a marrige visa but this won't be for a few months yet

There is no visitor visa.

Other going to school and getting an ED visa and extensions a tourist visa is your only choice until you get married.

You can get a 2 entry tourist visa in Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos that would give you almost 6 months of stay without needing a new visa.

I can't keep on going back to the uk

As it's causing friction between us

She just wants me to stay herein thailand

As mentioned before you don't need to go back to the UK, you can get a visa in a neraby country.

After you are married and with money in the bank you can stay in Thailand indefinitely.

This is the Thai law.

You can extend 30 days per entry on a tourist visa.

To apply in Thailand for a marriage extension (it is not a visa), you need to have Bt 400,000 in bank to be granted 1 year, otherwise is 60 days only.

How many times can I get an extension on tourist visa?

As answered above already: once per entry.

Visa while i am on a tourist visa!!!!!

If you marry while on a tourist visa immigration will first convert it to non-imm, cost Bt 2,000, and then issue the extension, cost Bt 1,900.

I would check that out if I was you, to legally work in Thailand you will need a work permit.

One thing not mentioned is your financial situation. If you want an easy solution, and willing to pay for it, check out the threads here on the Thailand Elite Easy Access program (summary: 5 years hassle free stay, with some additional perks, for 500,000 baht).

and remember that 500,000 will probably be a lot cheaper than the divorce settlement that many in your situation face.

Well I have know this lady for a number of years we both take turns in visiting eachother. If I was marrying someone just to stay in Thailand that would be just stupid although many men do just this. I have been married before this is not a decision I take lightly. Only someone who is crazy would do this. And yes 500000 a nice easy option for many people but I would still marry this lady even if I did take the 500000 tbat option

Thanks all for your advice im very grateful!!

Ok so I can get an extension if I leave thailand then re enter from another country! How long should I leave for? Before I re enter? how many times can I do this?

You don't get an extension by leaving and re-entering the country you get a new entry.

If you have a tourist visa from an embassy or consulate you can get a 30 day extension at immigration of the 60 day entry it gave.

If you have a 30 day visa exempt entry you can get a 30 day extension at immigration.

You should go out and get a 2 entry tourist visa at either Vientiane or Savannakhet Laos. That would give you almost 6 months of stay without needing a new visa. Just leave one time to use the 2nd entry before the enter before date on the visa after getting the 30 day extension at immigration.
