Google chrome quits instantly upon launch

Featured Replies

My Chrome browser quit working yesterday. If I try to launch it it instantly pops up a message saying it has quit working.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, but no change.

I would really like to get it back as it is part of my workflow.

Maybe as a shortcut switch to 32-bit or 64-bit depending what you have now ...

Can you start it in Safe Mode?

If so, it's an Extension that's probably causing your problem.

I had the same problem. Please fry TDS killer, run a tool from Kaspersky that checks your system for any viruses. Then download the 2015 free anti virus from Kaspersky. Delete all stuff that other anti virus programs didn't see.

Then download the newest Google Chrome set up and you'll see that it works again.

BTW, why can't you just make a simple system restore?

P.S. I could easily get rid of this weird bs on one PC, but had more time to spend to get it work on my notebook, running W.7

Then download "Torch" browser, which seems to be from Google Chrome and that will work. After a while, you'll get your Google Chrome back, don't know why and how.

HP laptop-Vista 32b.

Chrome started not to work two weeks ago.

Chrome icons visible but Chrome would either not open or open a non-responsive window.

I tried to uninstall-reinstall several times but no success.

Chrome would show up again as installed but I never saw the actual download bar moving.

I Googled for solutions, seems like it's a problem for some.

One poster said to delete the Chrome profile folder that's possibly corrupted but my system would not let me do it (though I'm administrator)

Maybe I'll try the new Chrome Canary.

Really annoying as Chrome Cloud holds all my bookmarks !!

Fortunately Chrome still works on my two PC (Win 7 and 8)and on a Vaio (Win 7).

Right Click Command prompt and run as administrator. Then you should be able to delete. (Use Task manager to kill all Chrome instances running first).

So I did a system restore, no improvement, I ran TDS killer, found nothing.

I might try deleting the Chrome profile folder as mentioned above. But I have the feeling I have a virus. What is the best way to snuff it? I am running Kaspersky internet security at the moment.

From the many similar descriptions I have a different feeling rolleyes.gif

Before hunting for a virus, better first try the trick with the new default profile.

Follow the instructions and don't try to delete the default folder, but rename it.

Should I mention that Chrome on my Android phone crashes upon start occasionally ? whistling.gif

Thanks Benq That seems like a good plan, I will give it a shot when I have a little more free time.

Ok Benq's method didn't work either. I did get it to create a new default folder, but Chrome still won't open.

Not a real solution, but a workaround in case you have synced your data to Google.

Over the years I have had problems with both Chrome and Chromium browsers. Those are essentially the same, except Chromium is open source and have some Google specific things removed. Both use the same user accounts and sync the bookmarks, add-on's etc to Google's storages.

At some point I had problems with Chrome, I switched to Chromium. A month ago, when I upgraded OSX to newer version Chromium stopped working. I simply installed Chrome and let the browser sync the data. Usage is pretty much the same with both browsers.

Found the programs I've used and try to put them in the right order now.

1. Download and run " rkill".

2. Download and run "TDS killer"

3. Download and install the newest Kaspersky Antivirus 2015 Trial and run a full system scan. You'll be surprised what this program will find.

4. In addition download the AVG tune up pro, does a great job.

5. Delete your Google under Control panel, or better use UNIN Staller pro, which enables you to free a lot of space and other useful stuff.

6. If that doesn't work out, please download "Torch" browser. It's from Google and don't ask me why, after a few days your google id functioning again.

lostinissan, thanks for all of that, I tried it all except for the AVG part, I use tuneup utilities.

It doesn't look like Chrome is coming back, but I am liking that torch browser, and I have it all setup the way I had Chrome, so I am fine with that.

Thanks.

I had never heard of that Torch Browser.

I just went to their website. Impressive.

You're welcome. Hope you figured that already out that it also has a download option. Not worse than utorrent.

Since I've installed Torch ( Google still doesn't start, when I click on it) it all in a sudden makes Google work.
