Morning Guys

Quick one im still awaiting UK birth certificate from UK for our son, me and my wife are both British nationals living here with our daughter and i wanted to know if we wanted to go back to UK for a visit can we get our son out of Thailand with just his Thai birth certificate in both Thai and English, as obviously both parents being British he has no claim to Thai citizen ship

Thanks

If he has a UK passport you can show the Thai birth certificate on departure to prove he was born here to justify him not having and entry stamp in his passport.

Without a passport he would not be able to leave.

Can he not get an emergency passport from Embassy? as at current we only have his thai birth certificate in both Thai and English awaiting his birth certifictae from UK to apply for passport

You can get him a emergency travel document at the embassy.

You can apply for a passport for him without a UK birth certificate. Having the birth certificate is optional.

Even better, you can apply for his UK Passport with a translation of his Thai Birth Certificate.

See HMPO guidelines below:

Any documents that are not in English must be fully translated by a person who is registered to an official organisation or trade body for translators or employed by a recognised translation company. The translation must be attached to the original document and signed to confirm it is a true copy of the original.

Currently new child UK passports are taking about 2 weeks (will get longer once the UK winter holiday season gets underway) to collection from application appointment at VFS trendy Bangkok.

Evidence of name and address is for you as the applicant, not your son, but better you supply photo ID (hospital record, etc).

Aren't these questions that the UK embassy can answer thoroughly and accurately via e-mail or in person?

Hopefully the embassy won't tell you "a lack of planning on your part is not a crisis on my part"....

British Embassy (Foreign Office) cannot help vis a vis information on passport application timescales (now dealt with by the Home Office); HMPO Helpline are the only ones who will give info, but the Embassy are still the ones who do ETDs.

sorry, but if the son is Thai [his Thai birth certificate], why can't they get him a Thai passport? [[?unless this is a British couple who had the child while residing in Thailand? still, would that not give a claim to Thai Citizenship?]] Was the mother, originally, Thai and now British?

They are both from the UK. The baby has no rights to Thai nationality.
