Getting the affirmation to marry document in the UK

Featured Replies

Hi, I will be in the UK over Xmas and hope I can get the affirmation to marry document then before I return to Thailand. I don't live anywhere near Bangkok so this would be easier for me.. Does anyone know where I can get this done?

Cheers

In Bangkok, They will not recognize anything else than an official stamp from the Embassy in Bangkok.

I'm sure you are aware that you produce the Affirmation of Freedom to Marry document yourself and simply have it notarised at the British Embassy in Wireless Road for a small charge, of course.

Yeh, I was just hoping I could get it done it the UK and skip the embassy stage then get it translated and stamped as I pass through Bangkok. Oh well!

You can get it all done in a day or two in Bangkok. I had to come back to the Embassy the following day after submission but I've heard people state that they have had the form stamped same day.

Yeh a friend of mine did it recently and said that he was pushed for time to get it issued translated and stamped in one day. He said something about them only doing 50 same day stamps at the place you go to after getting it translated,

I suspect that your friend was not talking about the British embassy, but the Thai MFA; which is where you have to go to have the translation of the notarised AFM stamped.

Whether he is correct or not, I can't say.

Remember that if you have been married before you will need your decree absolute if divorced or your previous spouses death certificate if widowed.

See Information for British nationals intending to marry in Thailand.

Note; all of this is a requirement of the Thai authorities, not the British ones.
