Yesterday I went to the Lazada website to look up some Happycall cookware and some Aftershave lotions.....didnt buy anything.

This morning on the Thai Visa site, its full of Lazada ads for Happycall pans and aftertshaves.

I give credit to their advertising intellegence...but...very intrusive on my privacy!!

To clean your cookies will not help if you are logged into Google. They track everything and will show you related ads.

Several posts have been removed for violating this forum rule.

If we don't pay for it, we are the product.

that's why we have free information, free entertainment anytime of the day. advertising becomes more contextual, even personal these days. I am fine as long as they don't take my data out of my box.

Feel free to unplug any time you want - otherwise, welcome to reality in the 21st century.

Its Google. Google how to tell Google to leave you alone tongue.png (at least with the "personalized" stuff)

I really don't know what the OP is on about. Just saw my own wife advertising for "travel girls on this website.." Guess they know it's my wife though...bah.gif

Looks like it's working - for once you didn't ignore the ads :P

Just click on the adds again and make them pay for it ... pay per click .... :)

Makes more fun I you check for "most expensive adwords" tongue.png

One thing I've noticed after making many purchases online over the years is they often get it wrong.

For example I purchased a software development system for about $1000 and pretty much every day since I made this purchase over a year ago I see facebook advertisements for the system I already own. It tends to be the large advertising networks who do this.

I'm presuming the company which makes the software is paying for highly targeted adverts but the ad network is getting it very wrong and constantly advertising to their current customers.

I've seen the same for lots of different products, it's very specific, targeted towards me and the adverts only appear after I've made the purchase at which point I'm not likely to be buying it again.

It's like advertising a particular model of car to you every day starting the day after you made the purchase. duh...

Don't log into your google account unless you really have to (ie to use gmail etc), then log out. Never use google search while logged into google. Don't use social media accounts to log into other sites. Don't link accounts. Use Firefox and set "Do not track me". Install NoScript plugin and do not unblock anything with "google" in its address. Install Adblock Plus plugin.

Anything I've missed ? ;)

Never use google search while logged into google.

Better still, don't use Google search at all.

I used to use it, but became absolutely sick of the extra delays in loading pages after clicking on links since the request first goes to Google before being redirected to the page I wanted.

Now I use http://duckduckgo.com , and if I specifically want to search on Google (but without the privacy implications), I append !g to the query.
