Border runs still an option?

Recommended Posts

I need to activate the last entry of my tourist visa by 13th December and I kinda feel like just doing a border run, but I remember there was a crackdown on it.
Apparently these visa run companies aren't in business anymore, at least all I could fine was this one:
http://www.thaivisaservice.com/

My last Back to back border-run, must have been in April 2014, before that i did one in January 2014 followed by an extension.

Then I flew back to Germany and got a new tourist visa, my second so far.

Before the tourist visas I had a business visa, which I think i added to once with a border-run.

The triple tourist visa i am on right now i re-activated once by a 1 week trip to vietnam and then I added an extension one month ago.

Any suggestions?
Should I maybe better take a flight to say Vientiane and stay there for 2 days?

Thanks!

Yeah last entry in triple tourist visa.

Which company?

There was one that was going with a big bus, but can't find them anymore.

For example the one you that linked above, which is a forum sponsor with a very good reputation.

I think that the Company that used the "big buses" was Jack Golf and I think that they are no longer in business.

Jack Golf has been reincarnated as Bangkok Buddy, they don't use the big bus any more (unreliable) but the service offered is the same.

contacted both companies and bangkokbuddy travel sunday wednesday only, Tanja the owner was former Jack Golf staff and she took over time, 5am and location, they travel by mini van, thb2,500.-.

thaivisaservice still travel every day, by mini bus, from Tesco ON NUT 6.30am, thb2,300.-.

The company used to run from ekamai closed down.

Sign of time

Ok then it seems I need to get into that cramped van.

Hope I won't get into any trouble. Probably better bring 20.000 in cash?

If you have a valid/unexpired Tourist visa that hasn't been stamped "used," you won't have a problem. Back-to-back visa exempt entries or repeated applications for a NEW tourist visa sometimes encounter problems.

The end of your permission to stay ... your last extension ... is not the same as the "use by" date printed on the triple entry visa sticker. Your permission to stay may be expiring, but the important date is the expiration date printed on the actual visa.

I email the owner of the link you posted 20 days ago... and he was still running and everything was fine... IF YOU HAVE A VISA.

He wrote back:

no problem, thb2,300.-, passport n 1picture.
We still go daily 6.30am to Ban Laem.
Thanks
They leave from Big C On Nut.

You don't need to go to Vientane unless it's the closest to you. For example from Bangkok one would go to Cambodia either using a compnay, or train or private transportation.

What is the train ride to Cambodia like? And how friendly / easy is the Thai Embassy in Phnom Phen to get a Tourist Visa? I was planning on going to Laos and getting one and then visiting Phnom Phen, sounds like I could save myself the trip to Laos. Have you or has anyone else been to Phnom Phen recently for a Tourist Visa?

Phnom Penh give Single Entry Tourist Visa.

Best give passport to agent, most travel agencies have service for Visa to Thailand, Vietnam and China.

I think you still have to wait two nights before getting passport back, agent charge a small service fee, but it is worthwhile, otherwise you have to deal with unfriendly guard and grumpy staff inside.

Why do you need to use a "visa run" service? It is very easy to do yourself. Simply get a bus (from Mochit preferably) to Aranayaprathet. It is equally easy to hop in one of the many minibus services that originate from various parts of the city. While I understand that there is an appeal to using these visa run services because of the simplicity they offer, it is cheaper to do it yourself. Personally, I have always found it better to be able to do things at my own pace. I enjoy having a few beers on the other side where better beer is significantly cheaper. I find no-man's land to be an interesting environment. I like strolling through. I also like to keep my money in my pocket .... Cheers!

Phnom Phen is not a good choice for visa. Savannakhet or Vientane Laos are much better especially the 1st.

You have nothing to worry about. They are loose again at the border with tourist visas. You can do multiple back to back but my info is don't do more than three at the same consulate. Tourist numbers are down and they have wisely decided not to chase anymore away.

Thaivisaservice is slightly cheaper but leave later and take slightly longer; Bangkok Buddy arrive back in Bangkok about 3 hours earlier (around 2pm) with a buffet in Cambodia. But yes only two times a week.

Depends if you are an early bird wink.png

Well i went with http://www.thaivisaservice.com/ and was happy to find out that getting on a van with a farang friendly seats layout isn't too bad.
When I tried them before I was on a van where even the asians were pretty crammed in. Torture.

Anyways, everything went smooth and I am on my final Visa-stamp...
Anyone ever tried the casino? biggrin.png looks dodgy.
