Try to ignore this juvenile, his mother thinks he's tucked up in bed.

If she only knew that he was on an adult's site... :o

Qantas compliance

Qantas says it will comply with additional security measures introduced by the UK Government following the latest terrorist scare.

All passengers on airlines operating from the UK will now have to check in all their luggage.

Qantas has begun contacting customers likely to be affected.

Only items such as wallets, medicines and sanitary products can be carried onto an aircraft by passengers.

Perth couple Marshall and Debbie Kearney were wondering what was going on when they were ordered not to take any hand luggage onto their flight from Glasgow to Heathrow.

Mr Kearney says after they had boarded, they were told the plane would not be going anywhere due to a terrorism threat.

"Due to terrorist activity that we would not be able to take off, and my feeling was that and the passengers that I was with was that we're on the ground so at least we're safe but obviously thoughts of 9/11 went through your mind."

- ABC/BBC/Reuters

Where it says Qantas, read all airlines now.

Just viewed the scenes at Heathrow....... Chaotic is the only word to use.

The (18+) suspects are alleged to plan to take small amounts of explosives in hand luggage, combine the small amounts and blow themselves up in flight.

ALL flights out of the UK are affected (pls note, Mr Tokyo)

The suspects are all British born Muslims........ Again!

havnt read that anywhere yet although between the lines it would appear to be so....but.... :D

Police have arrested 25 people in connection with the plot in raids of houses in the West Midlands and the London area.

According to BBC sources the "principal characters" suspected of being involved in the plot were British-born. :D

Arrests were made in High Wycombe, London and Birmingham ...

and....

Police had spoken to a "good number of community leaders to make them aware that a major operation was under way,

meanwhile.. from the lads and lassies @ MI5 :o

Current threat level

The current threat level is assessed as CRITICAL (as of 10th August 2006).

This means that an attack is expected imminently and indicates an extremely high level of threat to the UK.

See Threat levels in the UK for more information on how our threat level system works.

I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Now that this terrorist method has been revealed I suppose that hand carry luggage will be permanently banned from planes. What will they do with all that unused overhead storage? I suppose it's still too early, but wouldn't be surprised if before long new planes are designed without overhead storage. I don't see anyway around this. It's a major inconvenience to a lot of us travelers who travel light without any checked luggage, but suppose it's necessary.

Just watched the news :o

The people stuck at the airports might be pissed off now but at least they're alive and able to be pissed off :D

3 cheers for the Boys In BLUE :D

Absolutely. Better to be delayed and arrive than not to arrive at all.

As for the poster who said something about overhead luggage. The feeling is that this is a temporary measure. Many business people have to carry confidential papers and there is no way they can put them in the hold. However, electronic items, mobiles etc or anything else that could potentially set off a bomb, might have to be permamently put out of reach.

I just heard a news report which says people who know two men that taken away from an address in High Hycombe, are members of the local mosque.

Can't confirm this on the news websites yet though.

If this is true..... What a blow to the decent, genuine members of the Muslim community in the uk.. :D

Dont get me wrong, if security has to be stepped up, so be it. But no BOOKS? What is the reason for this? Imagine a journey from London to L.A. or Bangkok with only a crappy inflight magazine for company?

Well done MI5 - I'd buy you all pints if I were in the UK right now. :D:o

No disrespect but I imagine the drink of choice might be different, a good red burgundy perhaps.Moving on, what's the betting Mumtiz Iqbal won't shortly be ranting in the Bangkok Post how it's all the fault of Bush and Blair, and how the whole incident and timing was manafactured by the Israelis to detract attention from their unprovoked assault on the noble Hezzabolla in Lebanon.

Opinions are like a$$holes...we all have them, and some of them stink.

Our Australian cousin's opinion moves outside of these parameters in it's unsympathetic view of the the current global situation and the previous victims of terrorism.

Rant off....

Baboon, are you making a monkey of yourself? The object has nothing to so with being against the wall, but rather snugly sprawled out on the floor (hic!). :D
