Affordable for those earning wages outside Thailand?

Taxis are cheap, but the cost to ride the MRT and BTS seems unfairly high relative to the wages earned by those who need to take the train the most.

I once asked a shop assistant at Tokyu in MBK if they had ever ridden the BTS (since you know the station is connected to the store), "no it is to expensive" was the reply.

They were not taking the locals into consideration at all. Thais spend a lot of time and money on transport, transport without a comon fair like many cities

Wealthy Thai people and companies who pay for their employee's commute can pay for it quite easily, so I think they took those locals into consideration. But they left out the less privileged. The folks who would benefit the most won't make the companies building and running the trains much money.

Affordable ,perhaps but moronic. Consider the amount of personal time expended by every single commuter in this morass they call a city, simply trying to get to and from work. It may be inexpensive in Baht but it is such a useless waste of life sitting in the traffic chaos caused and amplified by the ignorance and inefficiency of local officialdom who by the way do not care as they have the privilege of having the local police clear a path for them. Mayhem.

Rubbish. Its about the same price as Japan. Singapore may be cheaper.

The taxies are an anomaly.

Prices are artifically held down because wages suck even more than the US.
