Inspection of tutoring schools expected to complete by year-end

BANGKOK, 18 December 2014 (NNT) – The Office of the Private Education Commission (OPEC) has commenced its 're-organization' of tutoring schools in order to bring all of them to standard and to ensure that they properly meet safety regulations.

Bandit Siphutthathangkun, secretary-general of the commission, said on Wednesday that there were around 2,300 tutoring schools nationwide. The commission has found that some schools charge higher fees than allowed, while some schools either allocated too much or too little content in a class.

Those schools have been told to make appropriate adjustments. Meanwhile, buildings used to host the classes need to properly meet the safety regulations that call for fire extinguishers and fire escapes to be available. Tutoring schools that make no improvements after being ordered to make the appropriate adjustments will be shut down.

Mr. Bandit expects the nationwide inspection of tutoring schools can be completed by the end of this year.
