Need to get this done for application for my Thai licence. I'm in Chaiyaphum so maybe wont get a specific answer

for my location but any ideas appreciated.

The transport dept suggested an English speaking school and put their official stamp on it but not having much luck.

Anyone have any other ideas for somewhere I could get this done and have an official stamp put on? Lawyer etc?

Go to the police station, make an appointment for the translator.Busy places like Pattaya he used to attend at 3 pm every day I do not know if that is still the case

If you have the original licence why do you need to have anything which says its authentic, either they are taking the piss or you have misunderstood what they are looking for, sure its not an IDP they are looking for as this is a legalised translation of your existing DL?

How can an English school verify the DL is authentic ? How would they know ?

They want a thai translation of my Oz license and have the thai translation stamped and authenticated. I would like nothing more than to punch her in the face or argue with her but unfortunately not an option

Lot of nonsense posts here.

National driving licenses have to be translated!

Only IDP is accepted without translation.

Its a completely normal requirement to have it translated.

"stamped authentic": bet its lost in translation. Guess its the usual stamp that certifies the translation.

There was recently a thread about translation service in Chaiyaphum...

Thai Visa has a translation service, they were quite quick, I sent them an email copy and they sent me back a certified translation via EMS. Took about two or three days.

Exactly. Apply for an IDP first and there should be no need for the translation. This is only for Thai DL application by the way, for normal tourists there is no legal requirement for an IDP.

OK, than it might be time to politely ask for a superior to talk to.

Sure you need a Thai passport when you stay here long time (longer than 3 months when memory serves me right).

Valid IDP is sufficient (to my own experience and what I read here).

Rubbish. Give them an extra 200 baht and no need to translate. Money speaks every language to them

Your the one talking rubbish.

Thirty years ago I followed this advice-may have been from your father- in regard to getting my stepson a Thai Passport.

Only some very Kow Tow smart talking by my wife got us the passport and kept me out of jail for trying to bribe a Thai Public Official. Or as she put it servant of the King.

Be very careful with whom you try this.

I have an IDP. That was her first ploy to get rid of me. Told me i didn't need a Thai license. (Expires in 6 months)

She is correct. Thai Law says that anyone who is not on an Immigrant Visa/Extension of Stay doesn't need a Thai DL and International one is sufficient.

Sounds like you are on a 15/30 day stamp so she can't be bothered.

Word it properl like "maybe u can get it translated for 200 baht" and put the money on the desk. Sounds suspicious anyway. Never heard of it having to get done.

Which is bizarre as the IDP isn't in Thai either!

Guys, haven't been here for long but I do know everybody has different experiences with these things and it's really up to the official you get stuck with. Pointless having a shit fight about who's right and who's wrong. Yes a bribe may have worked but Mrs said could have got me in the shit too. And the guy who assumed 15/30 day stamp I'm on an OA visa.

What I did want to know was where I can get my oz license translated and the translation stamped

You have been proven wrong in the other thread today, please stay away from here with the same nonsense information.

You are not a resident in Thailand if you have a non-immigrant visa, doesn't matter if you've stayed here a billion years.

You do need an IDP to drive in Thailand especially to cover insurance claims.

Both claims are not true.

True, but an IDP is a unified paper based on international treaties and should be known even to an officer at DLT

IDP has a simplified model/selection of licensing categories, easily recognizable by stamps.

Even Thailand issues IDPs.

EU driving licenses are terribly complicated (numerous categories) which can not easily mapped to the simplified system in Thailand.

So many people think that English is the "second language" at Thai gov. offices. Its NOT!.

And what would YOU do if presented with such a driving license?: biggrin.png

To many officers in Thailand your English language driving license does not look much different biggrin.png

English is the language used for communication between ASEAN countries so all government dept should have a reasonable understanding of it

I actually think she can speak and read reasonable English. Just unlucky got the wrong person. Anyway got an official translation done today, 500 <deleted> baht. Only game in town apparently. In hindsight the advice to ask her if someone in the office could translate for 200 baht may have been a good way of seeing if she wanted a bribe without offending or incriminating myself.
