Commerce Ministry unveils its New Year gift for Thais

BANGKOK, 18 Dec 2014 (NNT) - The Commerce Ministry takes its turns to announce its New Year gift for the public -- a week-long grand sale event at major department stores nationwide from December 24th - 30th, hoping to help Thai citizens save more than 15 billion baht in combined cost of living.

According to Minister of Commerce General Chatchai Sarikallaya, the campaign which will offer a wide range of discounted goods, is a cooperation among major department stores, retailers, more than 10,000 branches of 7-Eleven convenience stores and Family Mart stores all over the Kingdom.

The products to be offered include all necessities of life, sold at a discount rate of upto 70%.

Meanwhile, Mr. Suwit Kingkeaw, Vice Chairman of the CP All Public Company Limited, one of the participating manufacturers, has asked shoppers during the event not to buy goods for hoarding, in order to allow others a fair chance to get their hands on the discounted goods.

I bet they are just normal end of year "specials" and the junta is trying to take the credit. Just like announcing that the lower petrol price is a "gift" from the government lol. What a bunch of lying criminals!

As for the lower petrol price "gift", worldmarket prices has gone down by almost 50% and the pumpprices only about 10%.

So they are not only lying, but stealing from the people, they were supposed to serve.

Thainess at its best!!

Thank you very much General Chatchai Sarikallaya.

Thank you very much General Prayuth, especially for lowering the petrol and diesel price for us.

So, it's just a "New Year Sale" as per normal everywhere (nearly) around the world including Thailand?

Damn, they're getting desperate for some positive publicity.

Do these idiots understand the concept of a "gift"?

gift
ɡift/
noun
  1. 1.
a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present.
    "a Christmas gift"

This crap he is pedaling is not a gift, it's a promotion to try and stimulate the economy.

Lower petrol prices do not make me drive further. They just give me more beer money....so why not cut out the middle man (petrol pump) and give me free beer. That is a gift.

Pinheads.

Stealing and lying, luckily the NCPO is less oppressive than some here have it.

Anyway, the lower petrol price could have been a stable petrol price with an increase of taxes. That's how other countries seem to handle the issue.

Any 'gifts' for the second class citizens in this country? for those who work, pay taxes and obey

the law and pay thru our noses for everything? NO ? I didn't think so...

Crude has dropped more than 50% in 3 months. Diesel has dropped 1 bht. Not much of a gift eh?

Thought you were talking about foreigners who live here for a minute and then I realized we are not second class citizens at all - we are just aliens and as everyone knows aliens are classless.

And which ministry will be announcing the next gift for Thai's?

Ministry of silly walks offering free soles to the heels?

You can't have soles on your heels can you? Or did you mean souls for I detect that missing element in many Thai's along with heart. Perhaps the reason there are so many words and sayings relating to the heart is that there is a pressing need for words to explain things that are so rare, few have experienced. No heart or soul and zero compassion for the fellows each individual share the planet with.

Anyway 7-11 already have a promotion on. You spend a certain amount and get a token printed on the bottom of your will which enables you to buy the promotional item, many items are multiple like Oishi drink - buy two for a discounted price. It is not just walk in and buy 20 at 70% discount - so yes just your regular end of year seasonal discount package hijacked by the media department of the government I'm sad to say. But hey it's still a discount even if the packaging is a lie as always the case.

I don't drink, but maybe I should start....

If any price is going down, that is a "gift" from the stores, not commerce ministry. If said "gift" did come from ministry, where did their money for gift come from? (Thai people). It's like your gf saying "Give me some money so I can go buy you a present!!"

And last time I looked "gift" generally means "free". I know that words "loan" and "gift" are already synonyms to most Thais..... but I know when I pay for something I don't consider that a gift.

Didn't see ANYTHING worth buying at any price when they did this a few weeks ago.

Lots of people turned-up at places like Big-C but I didn't see much being loaded into their shopping carts.

......not exactly a giveaway.....

...taking for granted that they have any disposable income near the end of the month and year.....

...maybe lagging sales have something to do with it too.....
