I've downloaded a couple of programs to seek out duplicate files and was amazed at the quantity I had on my drives.

Like thousands....

There's so many i'm reluctant to use the automatic delete, maybe they're duplicate for a reason?

Why else would they be there?

Too many to check manually.

I've just tried AVG Tune UP 2015, which also has this feature. But the program is good enough that you see where the files are located.

I do delete my files I've got manually, as some are on my drive C and deleting all would be only a Chaos. Good luck with it, I take my time and give it a week, as I don't want to sit there for many hours.

But it helps a lot and your machine will have more free space and might even be faster afterwards.

I use "Auslogics Duplicate File Finder" with the following parameters:

1) search for all fiie types

2) no ignore based on size

3) ignore filename and file date

I always manually check the resulting list. Sometimes I want a file pon two different locations.

3) is useful for findung renamed copies.

Having more disk space will not speed up your machine. If you have your system on a regular hard disk, having adequate space n the system partition and defragging the partition to include the page file might do it but who doesn't use and SSD these days? SSDs should not be drefragged.

"When downloading "Auslogics Duplicate File Finder"

Why does Chrome block it saying "it may harm your browsing experience?

Edit

Did a scan with this > Fast Duplicate File Finder (The free version)

Found 0 duplicate files
