Yellow or blue house book

Has anyone not married to a Thai (and living in a condo) looked into this? Is it possible (or worth while)?

Blue is not possible (unless you own the condo and even then it is useless because it will not have your name in it), but yellow is. However, it is a lot of work to get one if you are not married to a Thai. A yellow tabian baan is essentially a permanent certificate of residence. Whether or not this is worth it for you depends on how long you plan to live in Thailand, at the same address, and how many certificates of residence you might need (eg. to register a vehicle). For me it was well worth it, but it depends on your particular circumstances.

Its Yellow and depends on which office district you have

to go to,some are easy others make it difficult for you,

Its just an easy way of proving your address ,in case

you want to open a bank account, get driving license,

things like that, they stopped the free health care with

it,try and if they don't put too may obstacles in your

way, go for it,just go to local govt office and check

what they require (not all the same),witnesses, and

paperwork etc,

I have a Yellow book.

I live on Suthep Rd and obtained it from the Amphure Office near the 3 Kings Monument.

Not complicated but I had a young Thai girl assist me. A friend, who became highly embarrassed when she was asked by Thai Lady Official if she was my Girlfriend.

I had to give up my Old Style 'Family Paper' to obtain my Yellow Book.

Fairly easy to obtain both my wife and I are on our yellow house book we both come from the uk , but we do live in a house not a condo . take to your local amphur. There is a fair amount of info on TV concerning this matter.

-copy of.... and original passport

-translation of passport to Thai

-chanote and copy of it

-blue book and copy

-residency letter

-3 photographs

-And one wittness with ID and a copy of it (to state that you are residing at this address)

- Application form

All the above to be countersigned by the local village head

translation of passport photo page can be done at CMU LI. They told me 300 thb for mine (US), and good for 30 days, after that, they will give you a new one for 50 thb. I'm waiting on my letter of residency. It was going to be very easy at Mokorat...but unfortunately, they had sent me to the wrong one....and mine is very strict. It's a lot of non-sense. I'm just trying to avoid future letters of residency or 1600 thb notarizations at the Consulate. At Promenada, the guy told me next time I would have to go to my consulate, maybe that was because I took the free one....but I don't think my local office would accept that, as it specifically states letter from immigration." So all is not necessarily well at the new Imm office.

Thanks to all for replies. So I've got from too much chew to bother with to easy as pie! I think I might try it as we live close to the local office (I'm assuming it's the big building in front of Mai Muang market), but as we only have a long term lease on the condo I'm still at a bit of a loss as to how we'll go with chanot or blue book.

The admin staff here are great, but I doubt they would know what to do.

I got in the yellow book , for the effort it took its worth nothing unless you need pfoof of residence , get a drivers lic or register a motorbike , if anyone can think of another use please let me know , my reasoning for doing so was to get on the government health care , that lasted two months ...

And in Pattaya the Dept of Transport will not accept yellow book as proof of residence!

JohnC did this rejection happen to you ?

Others have mentioned this yet I can find no other evidence of it than the two posts below; both of which were posted by the same member

The Dept of Land Transport certainly will in CM---I have used the yellow book repeatedly there.

Yes it is an effort to get up and take some documents to photocopy....not really!

Look at Sappers list. 9 items and the hardest I would consider is tracking down the village head and getting him to sign your copies for a bag of mangos.

I am about to start that process. Apart from the residency letter of 500bt, it doesn't seem to have a cost attached to it bar a few baht for copies; photos everyone has some and the bag of mangos.

I see it as an investment! I have paid the 500bt residency letter scam twice, once to buy a bike and once for the driving licence. I have to pay again for this it seems and no doubt another new bike or a change of visa will require it again; ......and more photos don't forget.

It seems like great value; but i must admit the wife will be doing most of the running around including the translation of the passport page.

not keen on the colour though; i prefer the sound of a black book.

Do they have village head's in town? In more rural areas I can see why, but in the city centre?

It usually takes me forever to get around to anything now (I could never understand people who did that) so keep us posted on how you get on please - talking to people around and about, there are an awful lot more lurkers here than posters and it may help someone other than me. And some people might just be curious or nebby.
