Panadda accused of hidden political agenda
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- A lawyer for former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and a politician from her Pheu Thai Party yesterday accused PM's Office Minister Panadda Diskul of having a hidden political agenda when he said just 12.2 per cent of rice stored in government warehouses under the rice-pledging scheme was up to standard.

Lawyer Norawit Lalaeng called on the government to disclose how Panadda's committee classified the stored rice into Grades A, B and C. He also threatened to call for enforcement of the Official Information Act if the government fails to make these disclosures.

"Nobody should be allowed to use a hidden political agenda to make accusations against Yingluck," he said.

Pheu Thai politician Somkid Chueakong, a former Ubon Ratchathani MP, also claimed yesterday that Yingluck was unfairly accused and that there was an agenda to smear the former PM.

From what I've heard from Thais, ML Pannada is regarded as honest and sincere. He was highly respected as the Provincial governor of Chiang Mai.

Probably is a nice guy...as anyone from Chiang Mai who would be a high ranking government officer (or former) and connected to The Family would be.

Look guys, politics aside, everyone and their dog knows that the rice pledging scheme was a rort of the highest level. Almost every politician in the ruling party had their finger in that pie. It was designed to be that way as a thank you to everyone who stuck by Mr T. from the lowly farmers to the highest level politician ... altogether to the tune of some 700 million baht. Added to this fact was that Mr T. thought by buying up all the Thai rice that he would corner the market and make a small fortune.Unluckily India lifted their ban on the export of Indian rice and so Mr Ts plan failed completely as that freed up thousands and thousands of tones of Indian rice.

The sorry part for Yinluck was that she was a very stupid lady and trusted the wrong peoples. She really believed she was helping the country while all her cabinet members were laughing behind her back. However she was captain of that ship and as such she will have to bear the brunt of the charges. She did not attent one single meeting of the rice committee after she had made herself the chairman.. She took the salary now she must pay the price.

"altogether to the tune of some 700 million baht."

Billion.

Wonder if Panadda has got to the bottom of the investigation into the microphone purchase yet? Happened under him so i presume it would be quick and easy to conclude.

Did it? Wasn't the purchase canceled?

If the rice really is that substandard/rotten, I wonder why Prayuth and his gang is paying 2 billion baht/month to keep it stored.

Friends/family in the warehouse business??

Guess we have to live with, that they are all equally rotten. Taxpayer money in their minds are considered spending money!!

Really? What country is he from then?

Is that particular agenda hidden, or in plain view? And what kind of substance is being used to smear the former PM?

The case hasn't been closed yet. That means that even rotten rice need to be properly disposed of, administered, etc., etc.

BTW some suggested the people in the current government would need to pay if rice was sold below the price the government paid itself. I assume some would also comment if rice for which the previous government may have paid 15,000 to 20,000 per tonne paddy would be thrown away because it's rotten.

Getting all bent out of shape over alleged improprieties in a rice scheme while ignoring free fire zones in Bangkok that resulted in dead journalists and civilians, and turning a blind eye to indentured servitude in the fishing industry.,, This kind of selective political enforcement of laws says it all about so-called reform priorities.

So glad they "selectively enforced" the stopping of the murderous antics of our friends the redshirts, or should I say the Lanna Freedom Fighters ?

Could not see that happening under PTP's transparent rule.

Just a reminder that posts using derogatory nicknames or intentional misspelling of people’s names will be removed. If you don’t want your post to be removed, spell people’s names correctly.

An off topic diversionary post has been removed as well.

What I still don't understand is that of the 17 million tonnes stockpiled, they said something like 70% was of poor quality and even rotten -- then they announced that most of the stockpile was sold.

How about "Nobody should be allowed to use a hidden political agenda to make accusations against anyone"... now, wouldn't that sound neat and clean, for a change ?

And what, may I ask, is the hidden agenda of Mr Norawit Lalaeng in raising this issue? Does he have any financial interest?

"Hidden agenda" ? Probably does not have one, probably just doing his job and announcing the facts to his boss, and the people of Thailand.

And who is up in arms about what he is saying ? Yingluck's camp, the ones who fear the truth so they try to slander this guy for saying things they don't want to hear.

Talk about digging the hole deeper. The antics of the Shinawatra regime is possibly the most amazing thing I have seen since coming to Thailand.
