Nakhon Si Thammarat alerted for worse floods after heavy rain on Sunday night

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 22 December 2014 (NNT) - The flooding situation in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province is getting worse with higher water level in canals due to widespread rainfall from Sunday night until Monday morning.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the northeast monsoon which is covering the lower part of Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand is likely to become stronger. This will result in more rainfall in several provinces in the lower South, especially those from Nakhon Si Thammarat downwards. Heavy to very heavy rain is predicted in some areas of those provinces.

People living along the Gulf of Thailand coast in the lower part of the country are strongly advised to beware of the danger caused by wind waves predicted to be 2-4 metres high. Seafarers should operate carefully; meanwhile, small boats operating from Chumphon downwards are strongly advised to stay ashore until 24 December 2014.

Nakhon Si Thammarat governor has assigned the provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and all related units to be prepared for a worse flood situation. They are told to be standing by to give precaution to local residents in case of heavy rain, runoff, landslides and accumulated rain water which is flowing into low-lying areas of the province.

Much of Ranode District in Songkhla is underwater at the moment as well, but no major flooding on main roads. It would be nice to have our TV members report in about the flooding situation in their locales.
