CDC to explain key issues in new charter
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC) will launch a PR offensive to help the public understand key issues that will be included in the new charter.

CDC chairman Bowornsak Uwanno said yesterday the new charter would be dubbed "the reform constitution".

The charter drafters met yesterday for the last time this year. They will meet again after January 4 to debate the so-called independent organisations under the constitution and scrutiny of the state's power.

Bowornsak said he has assigned CDC member Pakorn Preeyakorn to summarise key issues concluded by the charter drafters to brief the public on these matters.

Bowornsak said two private firms had expressed a willingness to assist the CDC in this regard, with Bangchak Petroleum offering to publish copies of the new constitution and disseminate it to the public via its petrol stations free of charge. He said Bangchak Petroleum petrol stations could perhaps also serve as additional venues to receive feedback from the public.

Manit Suksomjit, deputy chair?man of the CDC, said Microsoft (Thailand) was the other firm which said it was willing to assist the CDC by producing media content, including animation, to help explain the gist of the new charter without charge. The cost of public relations through various media would have to be shouldered by the CDC, however, Manit said.

Another CDC member, Wuthisarn Tanchai, said it was important to explain to the public how the new charter differs from the previous one in major areas.

Since the Thai taxpayer has already paid a heavy price for the cost of the coup, creation of its interim government, higher taxes, and new government subsidies the cost to publish copies of the new constitution and disseminate it to the public should be born out of the 2015 military budget. To privatize at no cost is a both CONFLICT OF INTEREST and LACK OF TRANSPARENCY.

Sorry, but the military should also have to wait until after the elections for its new submarine - that should give it an incentive for quick approval of the new constitution and government elections.

How about letting the public decide what will be in the charter versus telling them what will be in the charter.

As far as I know the general public they need examples, proposals to decide. If just asked 'what do you want' I fear the answer would be "yes" ermm.gif

On the other hand when you reason that the previous government made a coup unavoidable than the previous government should be charged and made to pay from (alleged) corruption and the 700++ billion Baht RPPS black hole.
