Phuket bus crash driver succumbs to her injuries


Ms Tantima's Ford car was severely damaged in the collision with the bus

PHUKET: Tantima Thaworn, 37, died today (January 1) of injuries she received in a road smash on Tuesday (December 30).

Ms Tantima was the driver of a Ford Fiesta which smashed into a tour bus between Kamala and Patong.

The bus left the road and rolled down a slope, ending upside down. Amazingly, no one on the bus was badly injured but Ms Tantima suffered critical internal injuries.

Seat belts can cause the internal injuries. Yes they save lives but also cause injury if the impact is hard enough.

Car like that should have had an airbag go off as well as the seat belt, so even if she avoided the belt (Thais so often do that), she could not have avoided the airbag. Sad, RIP.

The original report said it was a pick-up if I remember correctly. And she was on the wrong side of the road overtaking on a blind bend as is all-too-common here.
