Holiday accident summary

Featured Replies

According to the Road Safety Center for the five southern border provinces (Songkhla, Satun, Yala, Pattani, Narathhiwat)

5 dead, 86 injured in 85 recorded road accidents in the first three days of the Seven Days of Danger road safety campaign.

Of the deaths, Songkhla has the most (3) so far.

Of the deaths on New Year's Day, both were listed as males in their 20s driving while drunk..

1. Pol Cpl Sayomphu Saenpetch, 26, hit a power pole on the road from Yala Town to Raman at 5:30am January 1

2. Saranyu Saenpetch, 24, hit a median strip post on the road from Kanchanawanitch Rd to tambon Samnakkham in Sadao District at 9pm.

NOTE: It seems odd that both victims had the same last name and I think it may be a clerical error.

It says 'most accidents' due to drunk driving on motorbikes, though the report does not specify the type of vehicle in these to cases.

The death toll is down by three compared to the same period of the campaign last year.

I think Songkhla Town is safer to drive in this time of year than any other with all the university/college students gone home.
