Yodpiman riverside walk open

This is a major development along the river at the back of Pak Klong talad flower market, worth a visit in itself. Opened about three weeks ago but not all the shops are fitted out yet. It has four piers along the riverside and a nice beer garden upstairs overlooking the river. There is even a genuine free tuk tuk service around local sites. The contrast between old and new Bangkok could not be sharper as the surrounding lanes and alleys are very old. All the shops on the walk face river wards, there is nothing yet street-side, so when you come out of the walk into the old world it feels like time travel Probably more noticeable at night, in the bright walk you have Boots, Starbucks, KFC etc and toilets on a par with a 5 star hotel, then you go into a lane that must be 100 years old and to an area around the market with Chinese lanterns, weird shrines and local shop houses that look positively ancient.

There was one of the strangest concert nights there on new years eve, a likay show, cinema show and a luktung concert all squeezed into the lanes. The old area is of course much more interesting than starbucks land, but the river views are very nice. Times are changing but who wants Bangkok to look the same as everywhere else? Certainly worth a visit if only for the beer garden, very romantic atmosphere right by the river, they had jazz band on when we were there.

in thai but gives some idea, it does actually look like this from what I saw
