Hi We are wanting to get to our hotel in Khoa San Rd general vicinity near River pier from Hua Hin. In past, we have taken mini van to Victory Monument & train from BKK to Hua Hin but because of needing other transport BTS etc, to get to this hotel area, we are wondering if perhaps taking a bus from Hua Hin to South Bus Station in Bangkok would be a better way to go instead of Victory Monument or train station. Trip seems to take about 3.5 hrs but the big question is what is the best way to get from southern bus station to this area in BKK....wondering if we will just be stuck in traffic, should we take a bus or taxi, approx cost of taxi & approx time frame? Which are the worst hours for vehicle traffic jams in city if not all day. We could always take the train, then MRT & BTS etc, but just trying to not make this a 6 or 7 hour travel day. Would perhaps a private car hire or taxi be better re amount of time. There are 4 of us, so splitting a taxi/ car hire isn't hugely more expensive, we just don't know which route we should choose, so greatly appreciate info.

Take Phet Kasem Rd north, turn left at Kanchanaphisek Road West (sign says it goes to Ban Bua Thong), turn right (over bridge) at Baromratchawoni Road (sign says goes to Phra Pin Klao), take this to the Phra Pin Klao bridge, do a left u turn, this goes in behind Khao San Rd (I can't recall if there is access from there, but if not, drive up to Lan Luang, do a u turn, then back under the Phra Pin Klao bridge will take you to Khao San Road anyway).

In peak traffic, you may wish to take the elevated highway over Baromratchawoni Rd, keep in mind the elevated road is closed in a easterly direction during 4-6pm.

Also going up Bhuddamonton Sai 2 to Baromratchawoni Rd before Kanchanaphisek Road West will be faster (less traffic) but if you're not familiar with the roads you may get lost so stick to Kanchanaphisek Road West if you're not good with directions.

There's another highway you can switch to in the province above Prachuap Khiri Khan, this is much faster than Phet Kasem Rd but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called, the signs will say it goes to Bangkok so just follow that, it also intersects with Kanchanaphisek Road.

OP is looking at taxi or other public transport.

I'd say the public (Government) bus heading to the Southern Bus terminus then taxi to Banglamphu would be your best bet. Get off near the Pinklao Bridge (ask the attendant for 'Saphan Pinklao') from where it's a 5 minute nip in a taxi.

Make sure you get a first Class bus ( they usually have ป.1 printed on the side) as there are 'lesser' buses which stop at every ***&&&** lamp post, get rammed full and can take several hours more than the first class bus which takes around 2/2.5 hours.

Last time I was in Hua Hin was less than a year ago and a friend and I hired a private taxi or car back to Bangkok ( you can see small stands that advertise them) and we paid $30 and split it two ways. We tipped a couple dollars each and the taxi even paid all tolls. It was a very comfortable ride and we were taken to our doorstep.

are you sure you didn't pay between 1800-2500 baht and split that? if you can remember the name of the taxi or have their number please give it to me because 1000 baht is great price for taxi to hua hin from bkk.

I have a card around here somewhere, bear with me and I will look for it a little later, but I am sure that was the price. It was not a meter taxi but more like a town car. I also remember him saying was slightly more going from Bangkok to Hua Hin than coming back. I took the train on the way there so I can't confirm that price.

southern bus terminal and then cross the footbridge and take the 516 to Banglampoo (2 min walk to khosan) or take the 511 and again 516 or 556 and ask for kong salat

exit the bus walk in the direction of the bus for about 20 seconds, take your 1st left keep going straight through a little alleyway pass sawasdee banglampoo hotel on the left, then the crown pub on the right, and hey presto you are in kho san road
